Delhi liquor shops to remain closed on October 9, 10 amid CJP protest against CEC
According to an order issued by the Department of Excise, Entertainment and Luxury Tax, all retail liquor outlets operating under specified licence categories will remain completely closed on both days. The government described the move as a preventive measure intended to maintain public order during the planned political mobilisation.
Two-day closure ordered
The directive covers liquor outlets holding licences under Forms L6, L6FG, L8, L10 and L14, among the categories specified in the order. The restrictions will apply on October 9 and 10, with the authorities directing the affected establishments to suspend retail liquor sales during the period.
The order was issued after the Delhi government considered information received from the police regarding the planned protest. Officials said the restrictions were intended to prevent potential disturbances and ensure that law enforcement agencies could maintain public order.
Protest over electoral issues
The CJP, a youth-led political movement, has announced another demonstration in Delhi on October 10 as part of its continuing campaign seeking the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. The organisation has been holding protests over alleged irregularities involving the Election Commission, particularly in connection with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The latest demonstration forms part of a series of protests organised by the movement across the country. The closure order comes as authorities prepare for the gathering in the national capital, with the restrictions scheduled to remain in force throughout the two-day period.
