Delhi govt begins probe into Beacon Public School over alleged lack of recognition

The Delhi government has initiated an inquiry into Beacon Public School following information that the institution was allegedly operating without official recognition, with an Education Department team visiting the premises to examine its documents and functioning.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said officials were scrutinising the school’s records and checking whether it complied with the prescribed norms. He said appropriate action would be taken if the investigation uncovered violations or irregularities.

Closure possible if violations found

Sood said the school could be ordered to shut down if the inquiry established that it was operating in violation of regulations. Any action would be taken on the basis of the investigation’s findings and under provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and other applicable laws.

The minister stressed that the government would not compromise on the safety and well-being of students and said institutions responsible for children’s education were required to fulfil prescribed regulatory requirements.

The inquiry comes amid heightened scrutiny of educational institutions in the national capital, with authorities examining whether schools are operating with the necessary approvals and adhering to safety and education norms.

Department examining documents

The Education Department’s inspection team is examining documents produced by Beacon Public School as well as the manner in which the institution has been functioning. Officials will determine its recognition status and whether the school meets requirements laid down under existing rules.

No final action has been taken against the institution so far, with the government maintaining that further steps will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.

Sood said that if the allegations were substantiated, authorities would proceed in accordance with the RTE Act and other relevant laws. The government has indicated that action could extend to shutting the institution if serious regulatory violations are established.
