CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka detained while trying to enter Jantar Mantar

CJP leaders detained as volunteers stage a flash protest at Jantar Mantar

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) chief spokesperson Saurav Das and national spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka were detained by Delhi Police after they allegedly scaled the locked gates of Jantar Mantar to enter the protest site, following the Centre’s decision to withdraw its designated protest venue status.

The incident took place amid heightened restrictions on demonstrations at the site. Ranka shared a video on his X handle showing him and Das climbing over the locked gates and entering the premises before being intercepted by police personnel.

A senior police officer said the two spokespersons had arrived with at least 10 other people. Some members of the group managed to enter the premises carrying the national flag. The entire group was subsequently detained, the officer said.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also posted a video of the protest on X, showing party volunteers climbing an iron gate and a police barricade to reach Jantar Mantar.

Dipke said the protesters were later detained by Delhi Police. The demonstration was led by Ranka and Das, who arrived at the site early in the morning with other party members.

The protest followed the Centre’s decision to denotify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue. The move prompted CJP members to attempt to reach the site despite the locked gates and police presence.
