CJP leaders to hold 2pm press conference after release by Delhi magistrate

After release, CJP leaders announce press conference amid row over planned Delhi protest

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke and leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were released on Sunday after being produced before an Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantonment Police Station.

CJP co-convener Ranka announced that the party would hold a press conference at 2pm, shortly after his release.

“We will hold a press conference at 2 PM,” Ranka told reporters.

Release follows preventive detention

The three leaders had been taken into preventive custody by Delhi Police on Saturday after their flight from Mumbai landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport. They were travelling to the capital ahead of the CJP’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The Executive Magistrate ordered their release after they were produced at Delhi Cantonment Police Station on Sunday morning. According to CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh, their release was subject to a condition that they would not breach the peace for one year.

The police action came amid heightened security in Delhi, with authorities denying permission for the proposed demonstration and detaining protesters attempting to reach the designated site.

CJP plans press conference after leaders walk free

The announcement of the 2pm press conference came as the party prepared to respond to the detention of its leaders and the police measures surrounding the planned protest.

The CJP has demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision process. The party’s proposed demonstration was part of its campaign seeking accountability from the Election Commission.

The release of Dipke, Ranka and Das marks a fresh development in the dispute over the planned protest, with the party expected to address the detentions and its next course of action at the press conference.
