Two arrested after woman alleges rape in ambulance during home guard recruitment drill

According to police sources, the woman reportedly fainted midway through the physical endurance examination, which forms part of the selection process

A 26-year-old woman taking part in a Home Guard recruitment camp in Bihar’s Gaya district has alleged that she was gang-raped in a moving ambulance while being transported to a hospital after collapsing during a physical test. The alleged incident took place on July 24 at the Bihar Military Police grounds in Bodh Gaya, where the recruitment drive was being conducted. According to police sources, the woman reportedly fainted midway through the physical endurance examination, which forms part of the selection process. Organisers arranged for her to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance stationed at the venue. The woman has now alleged that multiple individuals sexually assaulted her inside the vehicle while she was unconscious. Following her complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Bodh Gaya police station. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, and a forensic team is assisting with the probe. Within a few hours of the FIR being filed, police arrested two individuals—ambulance driver Vinay Kumar and technician Ajit Kumar—who were reportedly in the vehicle at the time. Both suspects are in police custody and are being questioned. CCTV footage from the area is said to have helped authorities track the route and timing of the ambulance. In her statement, the woman said she was not fully conscious during the incident but became aware of what had happened during her hospitalisation. She claimed that three to four men assaulted her during the ambulance ride. The case has triggered political reactions, with Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Chirag Paswan criticising the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar. He also questioned the efficiency and accountability of the state police machinery.
