Jan Suraaj names three more candidates for Bihar Council polls

Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) on Thursday announced candidates for three more of the eight Bihar Legislative Council seats going to polls on October 23, completing its list of nominees.

The party had announced its first five candidates on September 20.

JSP completes list of Council nominees

According to a statement issued by the party, Anuj Singh will contest from the Patna Graduates' constituency, Vimohan Kumar from the Tirhut Graduates' constituency and Bhushan Jha from the Tirhut Teachers' constituency.

Earlier, party founder Prashant Kishor had announced five candidates for the Council constituencies.

The five candidates are Afaque Ahmed from the Saran Teachers' constituency, lawyer and academic-turned-politician Divya Jyoti from the Patna Teachers' constituency, SP Rai from the Darbhanga Teachers' constituency, Ravindra Yadav from the Darbhanga Graduates' constituency and Rajnish Ranjan from the Kosi Graduates' constituency.

Eight seats up for election

Elections are being held for eight Legislative Council seats, four graduates' and four teachers' constituencies.

The seats are Patna Graduates', Darbhanga Graduates', Tirhut Graduates', Kosi Graduates', Patna Teachers', Darbhanga Teachers', Tirhut Teachers' and Saran Teachers'.

The terms of the sitting members of these constituencies expire on November 16.

The terms of Neeraj Kumar (Patna Graduates'), Sarvesh Kumar (Darbhanga Graduates'), Bansi Dhar Brajwasi (Tirhut Graduates'), N K Yadav (Kosi Graduates'), Naval Kishore Yadav (Patna Teachers'), Madan Mohan Jha (Darbhanga Teachers'), Sanjay Kumar Singh (Tirhut Teachers') and Afaque Ahmad (Saran Teachers') are set to expire on November 16, according to the Election Commission.

Bihar Council election schedule

The election notification will be issued on September 29, while the last date for filing nominations is October 6. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 7, and candidates can withdraw their nominations till October 9.

Polling will be held from 8 am to 4 pm on October 23, with counting scheduled for October 27.
