Four die after inhaling toxic gas inside a well in Bihar's Gaya

Four people, including a father and son, died allegedly after inhaling toxic gas inside a well in Bihar's Gaya district on Friday, police said. The incident took place at Garh Karmauni village under the Dobhi police station area. The deceased were identified as Chamari Manjhi, his son Dilchand Manjhi, Vikas Chaudhary and Vijay Chaudhary. Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar said the four died after reportedly inhaling toxic gas inside the well.

Motor repair turns fatal

According to reports, the incident occurred when a person entered the well to repair a motor and fell unconscious, apparently after inhaling poisonous gas. Others subsequently entered the well in an attempt to rescue him but were also overcome by the suspected toxic fumes. Four people eventually died in the incident. Authorities rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. The circumstances surrounding the deaths and the nature of the suspected gas are being examined.

Rs 4 lakh aid

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expressed grief over the deaths and announced financial assistance for the families of the victims. Calling the incident "extremely heartbreaking", Chaudhary conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He said instructions had been issued to provide an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the dependants of the four deceased and extend all possible assistance to the affected families. The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with entering confined spaces such as wells, where the accumulation of toxic gases or oxygen deficiency can prove fatal.
