At least four killed in Bihar firecracker unit blast, more casualties feared
At least four people were reported killed and more casualties were feared after a powerful explosion ripped through a house housing a firecracker manufacturing unit in Bihar's Siwan district on Friday evening.
The explosion occurred in Alampur village in the Jamo area, where preliminary investigations indicated that a licensed firecracker manufacturing unit was operating from the house.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the impact of the explosion was so severe that debris from the front portion of the building fell onto the road, leaving the structure extensively damaged.
Siwan District Magistrate Vijay Prakash Meena and Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni reached the spot to oversee the situation.
"We have managed to recover some mangled bodies of those killed as their body parts are all disintegrated. As of now, we cannot say the number of casualties but two to three bodies have been located. We are identifying the bodies which are totally dismembered," Meena said.
Local residents claimed that the firecracker manufacturing unit was operating from the house of Mohammad Amiruddin Mian, reportedly a well-known firecracker trader in the area.
Eyewitnesses described the explosion as extremely powerful, with the blast causing extensive damage to the premises.
While reports indicated that at least four people had died, officials had not established a final casualty count as rescue and identification efforts continued.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion and the operations of the firecracker manufacturing unit.
