Karamoko and Waltert made a commanding start, breaking the Indian pair's serve early and establishing a 4-0 advantage in the opening set.

Although Adkar and Bhosale managed to break Waltert's serve in the fifth game, the Swiss players maintained their momentum and eventually secured the first set 6-2.

The second set followed a similar pattern as the Indian duo struggled to hold serve against their opponents' consistent returns and attacking play.

Bhosale dropped her serve early, allowing the Swiss combination to establish a 3-0 lead. Adkar also faced difficulties on serve as Karamoko and Waltert continued applying pressure.

The Swiss pair eventually completed a 6-0 second-set victory to seal the title, ending India's hopes of a historic championship triumph on home soil.

Adkar and Bhosale had enjoyed an impressive campaign, defeating several strong combinations on their way to the championship match.

They began their tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over England's fourth-seeded pair Madeleine Brooks and Amelia Rajecki in the opening round.

The Indian duo subsequently defeated the British-American combination of Jodie Burrage and Robin Montgomery 7-5, 6-4 in the quarter-finals to advance to the last four.

Their most significant victory came in Saturday's semi-final, where they overcame second seeds Weronika Falkowska of Poland and Alana Smith of the United States in a closely contested encounter.

After winning the opening set 6-2, Adkar and Bhosale lost the second 2-6 before holding their nerve in the deciding match tie-break to register a 10-8 victory.

India's singles challenge at the Chennai Open had ended on Friday after 17-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi suffered a quarter-final defeat.

Despite her elimination, Maaya achieved a notable milestone by becoming the first Indian player since Sania Mirza in 2012 to reach the quarter-finals of a WTA Tour-level singles tournament.

Maaya also competed in the women's doubles alongside Shrivalli Bhamidipaty. The pair advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating third-seeded Czech players Aneta Kucmova and Aneta Laboutkova in the opening round.

However, their campaign ended following a defeat against the Dutch-Hungarian combination of Isabelle Haverlag and Panna Udvardy.

Indian Olympian Ankita Raina also participated in the doubles competition, partnering Japan's Hiroko Kuwata. The pair suffered a 1-6, 1-6 defeat against Australia's Gabriella Da Silva-Fick and Kazakhstan's Zhibek Kulambayeva in the opening round.

Although Adkar and Bhosale fell short of winning the Chennai Open title, their historic appearance in the final emerged as one of the standout achievements of India's campaign, highlighting the growing potential of the country's women's doubles players on the international circuit.
