India-Brazil tickets snapped up within minutes as Kolkata football fever soars

Tickets for India’s historic international football friendly against five-time world champions Brazil witnessed a massive rush on Wednesday, with most lower-priced categories selling out within minutes of bookings opening for the October 3 clash in Kolkata.

Online sales began at 4 pm through the official ticketing platform District, triggering heavy traffic that pushed fans into virtual queues. A majority of the non-premium seats, particularly those priced between Rs 1,000 and Rs 5,000, were snapped up within about 20 minutes, while reports said the lower-priced categories were effectively sold out within an hour. Ticket prices range from Rs 999 to Rs 15,000. The categories were priced at Rs 999, Rs 2,000, Rs 2,500, Rs 3,500, Rs 4,500, Rs 6,000, Rs 7,000, Rs 9,000 and Rs 15,000 for VIP seats.

Historic Brazil visit

The friendly at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan will mark the first time Brazil’s senior men’s national team plays in India. It will also be the first senior international meeting between India and Brazil. Currently ranked fifth in the world, Brazil will be the highest-ranked opposition India have faced since the FIFA World Ranking system was introduced in 1992. India are currently ranked 138th.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced the opening of ticket sales on Wednesday, telling supporters: “The wait is over. See you at India vs Brazil.” The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm. Around 70 per cent of the stadium’s seats are expected to be made available for sale. Tickets are being issued digitally, with no physical tickets or counter sales planned.

The fixture has generated particular excitement in Kolkata, which has a long association with Brazilian football and a sizeable following for the five-time world champions.

Three major friendlies for India

The Brazil encounter forms part of a high-profile international window for the Blue Tigers. India will first face Panama at Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium on September 26 before taking on Brazil in Kolkata on October 3.

Three days later, India will face two-time World Cup champions Uruguay at the same Kolkata venue on October 6.

Head coach Khalid Jamil has already named a 26-member squad for the three friendlies. The national camp is scheduled to begin in Bengaluru on September 14, with the team expected to travel to Kolkata on September 28 after the Panama match.

All three of India’s opponents featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing the national side with a rare opportunity to test itself against significantly higher-ranked teams in the same international window.
