Harry Kane extends Bayern Munich contract until 2029 after Ballon d'Or triumph

England captain Harry Kane has signed a contract extension with Bayern Munich until June 30, 2029, the Bundesliga champions announced on Thursday, securing the long-term future of their prolific striker following his historic Ballon d'Or triumph.

The 33-year-old forward, who joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023, has scored 156 goals in 161 competitive appearances for the German club, establishing himself as one of Europe's most consistent goalscorers.

Since arriving in Munich, Kane has helped Bayern win two Bundesliga titles, the DFB Cup and two Franz Beckenbauer Supercups. His performances culminated in him winning the 2026 Ballon d'Or last week, becoming the first Englishman to claim the prestigious individual award since Michael Owen in 2001.

Bayern confirmed the extension in an official statement, highlighting Kane's contributions to the club's domestic and European campaigns.

Expressing his happiness over the new agreement, Kane said he had developed a strong connection with the club, its supporters and the city of Munich.

"I feel right at home at FC Bayern. I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich. We have a fantastic team and, in Vincent Kompany, a fantastic manager. It makes me very proud to be part of this club," Kane said in a statement released by Bayern.

"My whole family is very happy here. I was keen to stay. I'm now looking forward to the future and I want to win many more titles with this great club," he added.

The extension puts an end to speculation surrounding Kane's immediate future, particularly suggestions that he could return to the Premier League.

Kane had previously indicated that his desire to return to English football had diminished since settling in Germany, where he has enjoyed considerable individual and team success.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer described Kane's journey at the club as an important chapter in its history.

He praised the England international's achievements and popularity among supporters, describing the contract extension as a significant moment for the German champions.

Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen also welcomed the agreement, saying Kane had become an integral part of the club since arriving in 2023.

"We're delighted to have successfully extended Harry Kane's contract. This is fantastic news for us, for our fans and for the Bundesliga. The Ballon d'Or winner is staying at Bayern Munich!" Dreesen said.

He added that Kane's contribution extended beyond goalscoring, citing his influence on the team and his role as an example to other players.

Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said the extension would provide certainty in the club's long-term sporting plans.

"This key contract extension gives us certainty in our planning. It sends a message that the biggest goals are within reach at FC Bayern," Eberl said.

He has also won the European Golden Shoe twice, in the 2023-24 and 2025-26 seasons, and was named Germany's Footballer of the Year in 2026.

His goalscoring achievements have been accompanied by individual records in domestic and European competitions.
