Yuvraj Singh joins Delhi Capitals as batting coach, reunites with Sourav Ganguly for IPL 2027
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant and batting coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, marking his first formal coaching assignment and a reunion with former India captain Sourav Ganguly.
The JSW and GMR co-owned franchise announced the appointment on Tuesday, bringing the 44-year-old World Cup winner into its revamped coaching setup. Yuvraj will work alongside Ganguly, who was recently appointed head coach, as Delhi Capitals seek to rebuild following successive seasons without qualifying for the IPL playoffs.
The appointment also marks Yuvraj's return to the Delhi franchise after 11 years. He represented Delhi Daredevils, as the team was then known, during the 2015 IPL season after being acquired for a then-record Rs 16 crore, making him the most expensive player in the tournament's history at the time.

Expressing enthusiasm about his appointment, Yuvraj said his longstanding association with the franchise and its owners made the opportunity particularly meaningful. He also welcomed the prospect of working alongside Ganguly, under whose captaincy he established himself as one of India's leading limited-overs cricketers.
"I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me," Yuvraj said in a statement released by the franchise.
He added that he was looking forward to teaming up with Ganguly, popularly known as Dada, in a coaching capacity after their years together as international teammates.
Yuvraj said coaching was something he was passionate about and expressed confidence in the talent available within the Delhi Capitals squad. He hoped to contribute to the team's development and success during the upcoming season.
Although the appointment represents his first formal coaching position, Yuvraj has previously worked as a mentor to several prominent Indian cricketers, including Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh. His involvement in their development has been widely recognised, particularly in helping young batters improve their technique, confidence and approach to limited-overs cricket.

Yuvraj's appointment reunites two prominent figures from Indian cricket's modern era. Ganguly was India's captain when Yuvraj made his international debut in 2000, and the two played together during a period when India emerged as a formidable force in international limited-overs cricket.
Ganguly's leadership played an important role in the early development of Yuvraj's international career. The left-handed all-rounder subsequently became one of India's most influential match-winners, contributing to several major tournament victories.
Their partnership now enters a different phase, with Ganguly overseeing the franchise's coaching operations and Yuvraj taking responsibility for batting development while assisting with broader team preparations.
The appointments are part of Delhi Capitals' efforts to strengthen their support staff ahead of the new IPL season. The franchise has struggled to maintain consistency in recent campaigns and will be hoping that the experience of the two former India internationals can help improve performances.

Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed Yuvraj's return, describing him as one of Indian cricket's greatest match-winners and highlighting his ability to mentor young players.
Jindal said Yuvraj's experience, competitive mindset and ability to connect with cricketers would be valuable assets for the squad. He also expressed confidence that the former all-rounder's return would mark an important new chapter for the franchise.
The Delhi Capitals chairman said the management was particularly pleased that Yuvraj would be working alongside Ganguly and the rest of the coaching staff.
Co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi, founder of GMR Sports, also welcomed the appointment, emphasising Yuvraj's understanding of the game and his record as an international cricketer.
Grandhi said the franchise expected Yuvraj's insights and mentoring abilities to make a meaningful contribution to player development and the team's campaign. He expressed confidence that the former India star would bring a winning mentality to the dressing room.

Yuvraj previously played for Delhi Daredevils in the 2015 IPL season after the franchise secured his services for Rs 16 crore at the player auction. The acquisition attracted considerable attention because it established a new auction record at the time.
He featured in all 14 matches for Delhi that season, scoring 248 runs, including two half-centuries. Despite the substantial investment, the franchise endured a disappointing campaign, and Yuvraj was subsequently released.
Across his IPL playing career, Yuvraj appeared in 132 matches, scoring 2,750 runs and taking 36 wickets. He represented several franchises during his time in the tournament and was known for his aggressive batting, effective left-arm spin and ability to influence matches in different situations.
His return to Delhi in a coaching capacity offers an opportunity to contribute to the franchise's development beyond his playing career.

Yuvraj was a central figure in India's victories at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. His performances in both tournaments established him among the country's most accomplished limited-overs cricketers.
He was named Player of the Tournament in the 2011 World Cup after scoring 362 runs and claiming 15 wickets, playing a decisive role in India's triumph on home soil.
During an international career spanning 17 years, Yuvraj represented India in 304 One-Day Internationals, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals. He became particularly renowned for his powerful strokeplay, athletic fielding and ability to deliver under pressure.
His six consecutive sixes against England's Stuart Broad during the 2007 T20 World Cup remain among the most celebrated moments in international cricket.
Since retiring from international cricket in 2019, Yuvraj has remained associated with the sport through mentoring assignments and other cricket-related activities.

Delhi Capitals enter the 2027 season seeking a turnaround after failing to qualify for the playoffs in both 2025 and 2026. Despite featuring in every edition of the IPL since its inception, the franchise has yet to win the championship.
Delhi reached their first IPL final in 2020 but finished runners-up to Mumbai Indians. Since then, the team has struggled to reproduce the consistency required to challenge for the title.
The appointments of Ganguly and Yuvraj signal a renewed emphasis on experienced leadership, player development and a stronger batting unit.
With Yuvraj bringing extensive international experience and a record of mentoring emerging Indian cricketers, Delhi Capitals will hope the new coaching combination can help build a more competitive squad and end their long wait for an IPL title.
