Yamuna Expressway stretch in Gautam Buddha Nagar entirely declared 'no protest zone'
The entire stretch of the Yamuna Expressway falling under Gautam Buddha Nagar district has been declared a 'no protest zone' to ensure smooth and obstruction-free movement of traffic, police said on Thursday. The restriction applies to the 41-km stretch of the expressway within the jurisdiction of Gautam Buddh Nagar, police said. The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate said the decision was taken in compliance with the directions issued by the Allahabad High Court on May 22. The move comes after a series of protests in the Noida-Greater Noida region in the recent months by industrial workers. Following the declaration, political, non-political and other forms of protests and demonstrations on the Yamuna Expressway have been prohibited, officials said. The move aims to ensure uninterrupted movement of commuters and commercial vehicles and prevent traffic disruptions on the expressway, police said.
"Information boards regarding the order are being installed at key locations along the expressway, at the police commissionerate office and at relevant police stations. The information is also being disseminated through various media platforms to create public awareness," police said. The police said strict compliance with the order was being ensured and continuous surveillance was being maintained on the expressway to uphold law and order and effective traffic management. The industrial workers in Noida recently held demonstrations over their demands, including wage hike, while farmer groups in Greater Noida have repeatedly staged protests over land compensation and other issues, at times affecting traffic movement on major routes.
