Woman alleges AI-morphed photo with PM Modi image displayed at CJP protest, FIR filed

The Delhi Police have registered an FIR after a 25-year-old woman alleged that her photograph was digitally altered using artificial intelligence and displayed alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image during a Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar.

The case was registered at the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. The FIR has been registered against unidentified persons, while the woman's complaint names several CJP functionaries.

The woman, a content creator and resident of Budh Vihar Phase 2, told police that the alleged use of her photograph had left her in "absolute distress, fear, and trauma".

Photo allegedly displayed on protest banners

According to her complaint, her photograph was allegedly taken without authorisation and manipulated using AI face-swapping tools. She claimed that the altered image was then printed on banners and displayed during the protest.

"During the recent CJP protests at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, certain delinquent demonstrators and organisers unauthorisedly harvested my personal photograph. Using digital manipulation and Al face-swapping tools, they morphed my face directly onto an image alongside the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, fabricating a completely false, compromising, and sensationalized picture,” the FIR accessed by Hindustan Times said.

She further alleged that organisers and others involved in the protest had obtained her private photographs without permission.

“The specific organisers and key functionaries of the CJP protests... and their active accomplices unauthorizedly harvested my private photographs,” it added.

Police examine photos and videos

The complainant alleged that the banners were displayed before crowds at Jantar Mantar and that derogatory slogans and sexually suggestive comments were made about her. She also claimed that videos of the banners and slogans were recorded and later circulated on social media.

Police said the woman has submitted photographs and videos as part of her complaint.

"She has submitted photos and videos where posters show images of her face superimposed on certain banners… She claims this was done without her consent. We are probing the case,” an officer said, seeking anonymity.

The police are now examining the material submitted by the complainant and the circumstances in which the alleged manipulated image was created, displayed and circulated.

The CJP had no immediate comment on the allegations at the time of reporting.
