India will celebrate its 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the annual tradition of hoisting the national flag and addressing the nation from the Red Fort in Delhi.
Around 27,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony, including 5,000 special guests from different fields, along with members of the public and youth.
For those unable to attend the celebrations at the Red Fort, the event will be available live on television and online.
Independence Day 2026 live on TV
Doordarshan will provide live coverage of the Independence Day celebrations across its network on August 15.
According to an official announcement by Doordarshan, the live broadcast will begin at 6:30 am.
Viewers can watch the ceremony on DD National, while DD News and other Doordarshan platforms will also carry coverage of the celebrations.
DD National and DD News are part of Prasar Bharati's national television network. DD Free Dish also provides free-to-air television services without a monthly subscription.
Several other television news channels are also expected to broadcast Prime Minister Modi's Independence Day address live.

Those who prefer watching the ceremony on a phone, laptop or smart TV can also access live streams online.
The official Doordarshan YouTube channel will stream the 2026 Independence Day celebrations live.
The event will also be available on WAVES, the Prasar Bharati platform that carries Doordarshan channels and streams major national events.
When is PM Modi's Independence Day speech?
Prime Minister Modi will address the nation from the Red Fort after the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony on August 15.
The celebrations can therefore be watched from home through television and online platforms, with Doordarshan's live coverage beginning at 6:30 am.
