'Students' safety cannot be compromised': Abhijeet Dipke questions outsiders at LPU protest

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Monday raised concerns over the safety of students at Punjab’s Lovely Professional University (LPU), saying students should not be held responsible for the chaos witnessed during protests on the campus.

Dipke claimed that people from outside the university were involved in the unrest and questioned how they were able to enter the campus.

He shared a screenshot of a conversation with a student to support his concerns. According to Dipke, several female students have also spoken about feeling unsafe amid the situation.

The comments came as questions are being raised over the events surrounding the protests at the university. Dipke said the focus should remain on ensuring that students are protected and that the circumstances that led to the unrest are properly examined.

Calls for police investigation

Raising the issue of campus security, Dipke said the Punjab Police should establish how outsiders were able to gain entry into the university.

“Students’ safety and security cannot be compromised. Punjab Police must investigate and answer how this happened,” he said in a post on X.

His remarks also focused on the experiences shared by students, particularly female students who, he said, had expressed concerns about their safety.

Dipke maintained that students should not be blamed for the disorder if people from outside the university were involved. He questioned the circumstances under which such individuals could enter the campus and called for an investigation into the matter.

Focus on student safety

The questions raised by Dipke centre on two issues—the presence of outsiders during the protests and the safety of students on the LPU campus.

While sharing the student conversation, he sought answers from the authorities on how access to the university was possible during the unrest. He also stressed that student safety should not be compromised while the circumstances surrounding the protests are investigated.

Dipke's remarks add to the concerns being raised following the protests at LPU, with the focus now also turning to campus security and the presence of people who were allegedly not students.
