SpiceJet flights hit by disruption at Delhi airport, passengers face delays, cancellations

Several SpiceJet flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed or cancelled on Saturday following operational disruptions, leaving scores of passengers affected.

Delhi Airport said its teams were working with SpiceJet and other stakeholders to assist passengers and manage the situation. Ground-handling staff and airport personnel were also helping stranded passengers and coordinating with airline representatives.

"We regret the inconvenience faced by passengers due to the operational disruption of some SpiceJet flights. Delhi Airport teams are actively coordinating with the airline and relevant stakeholders to support affected passengers and provide necessary assistance," the airport said in an advisory posted on X.

SpiceJet has not issued a formal statement on Saturday’s disruption.

The airline has been dealing with financial and operational challenges, with a significant portion of its fleet remaining grounded.

Earlier Dubai flights disrupted

The latest disruption comes days after around 200 SpiceJet passengers protested at Delhi airport over repeated rescheduling and long delays involving flights to Dubai.

On September 15, passengers were affected after SpiceJet flights SG 5111 and SG 5105, scheduled to fly from Delhi to Dubai on Monday morning and evening respectively, were repeatedly rescheduled.

The airline had attributed the delays to operational reasons after an aircraft was grounded.

"SpiceJet flights SG 5111 and SG 5105, operating from Delhi to Dubai, have been delayed due to operational reasons following the grounding of an aircraft, reported PTI.

"Alternate flights are being arranged to accommodate the affected passengers, and the airline is making every effort to minimise the inconvenience caused," the airline spokesperson said in a statement.

SpiceJet under close watch

The airline has faced several challenges in recent months as it works to manage its financial position and restore aircraft to service.

Last week, Civil Aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu told PTI that the civil aviation ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) were closely monitoring SpiceJet’s financial condition and operations.

The latest disruption at Delhi airport has once again affected passengers travelling with the airline, while airport teams continue to coordinate with SpiceJet to provide assistance to those impacted.
