Saket Gokhale accuses CBI of delaying RG Kar rape and murder case to serve BJP's political agenda
Through a post on X, activist Saket Gokhale has raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in West Bengal. Gokhale alleges that the CBI, under the influence of the BJP-led central government, is deliberately delaying the prosecution in a high-profile rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The controversy stems from the arrest of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar College, on charges of financial irregularities. This case, originally initiated by the West Bengal Police, was later transferred to the CBI following an order from the Calcutta High Court. Gokhale, however, clarified that this arrest is unrelated to the much more severe RG Kar rape and murder case, which also falls under CBI’s jurisdiction.
According to Gokhale, the investigation into the corruption case has monopolized the CBI's attention for the past 20 days, leading to a troubling lack of progress in the rape and murder case. He emphasized that, despite clear indications that the primary accused, Sanjay Roy, arrested by Kolkata Police within 12 hours of the crime, is the only perpetrator, the CBI has not moved forward with filing a chargesheet or taking any additional investigative steps.
Gokhale raised critical questions about the CBI's motivations, suggesting that the agency is deliberately stalling the rape and murder investigation. He questioned why the CBI has not filed a chargesheet to commence the trial against Sanjay Roy, pointing out that further arrests and supplementary chargesheets could still be issued if new evidence arises. The delay, Gokhale suggests, is a strategic move to keep the BJP’s political narrative alive in West Bengal.
Gokhale further alleged that the delay serves a political purpose: by not filing the chargesheet, the CBI avoids validating the Kolkata Police’s swift resolution of the case. This, according to Gokhale, allows the BJP to continue staging protests and maintaining a foothold in Bengal's politically charged environment.
In a sharp critique, Gokhale accused the BJP of prioritizing their political agenda over the pursuit of justice for the victim. He stated that the delay in the rape and murder case is emblematic of the BJP’s “dirty political agenda,” which he claims is being played out at the expense of the victim and her family.
Gokhale urged the public to demand that the CBI file a chargesheet immediately in the RG Kar rape and murder case. He stressed that justice must not be delayed for the sake of political maneuvering, and that the victim’s family deserves closure.
As the allegations made by Gokhale gain traction, the CBI and BJP will likely face increased scrutiny regarding their handling of this sensitive case. The public’s response to these claims could shape the narrative in the ongoing political and judicial discourse in West Bengal.
