PM Modi says BRICS New Delhi Declaration shows world's trust in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the unanimous adoption of the New Delhi Declaration at the 2026 BRICS Summit reflected what he described as growing international trust in India.

Modi made the remarks while inaugurating the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi on his 76th birthday. The three-day event is being held from September 17 to 19 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre.

Modi links BRICS outcome to India's economy

Referring to India's recent economic performance, Modi highlighted the country's reported 7.8 per cent quarterly GDP growth.

“India's quarterly GDP report was released in September itself, and even during this challenging period, India achieved 7.8 per cent growth,” PM Modi said.

He also referred to India's sovereign credit rating upgrade and linked the economic indicators with what he described as rising confidence in the country.

“On one hand, India's economy is growing. On the other, the world's trust in India is also increasing,” PM Modi said.

Modi then pointed to the BRICS Summit, which India hosted in New Delhi, as another example of this international confidence.

Focus on technology and infrastructure

The Prime Minister also referred to developments in technology and infrastructure during his address.

“In this very month of September, exactly 10 days ago, the Global FinTech Fest took place in Mumbai. In it, discussions were held on inclusive finance through Agentic AI, tokenisation, and quantum technology,” he said.

He said around 3,000 kilometres of the Dedicated Freight Corridor had also become fully operational during the same period.

Reiterating the GDP figure, Modi said, “In this same time frame, in September itself, India's quarterly GDP report was released. Even in this challenging period, India achieved and demonstrated a growth rate of 7.8%.”

SEMICON India enters fifth edition

Modi also connected the semiconductor event with Vishwakarma Jayanti, saying the occasion reflected the link between India's traditional focus on creation and modern technology.

"This is the fifth edition of SEMICON India taking place. I extend a warm welcome to all of you. To the guests who have arrived from abroad, I extend a special welcome to India. Friends, today is also the day of Vishwakarma Jayanti. I extend my warmest greetings on Vishwakarma Jayanti to all fellow countrymen,” he said.

SEMICON India 2026 is being held under the theme ‘Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem’.
