PM Modi lands in Tashkent, gets warm welcome from Mirziyoyev

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tashkent on Saturday for a two-day State Visit to Uzbekistan, where he was received by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The visit is aimed at taking forward the strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan, with the two sides set to discuss cooperation across several key sectors.

Trade, defence and energy on agenda

Modi will hold delegation-level talks with Mirziyoyev during the visit. Discussions are expected to cover trade and investment, defence, digital connectivity, energy, education and people-to-people ties.

The two leaders will also review the progress of bilateral cooperation and discuss priorities for the next phase of the relationship.

“Landed in Tashkent to a warm welcome by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Grateful to him for the special gesture. This is my fourth visit to Uzbekistan, reflecting the depth and growing momentum of our bilateral relations," PM Modi posted on X after his arrival.

This is Modi's fourth visit to Uzbekistan. Before leaving for the country, he had said that India-Uzbekistan ties had made significant progress in recent years.

“At the invitation of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, I will visit Tashkent on 29-30 August for a State Visit. In recent years, the India-Uzbekistan Strategic Partnership has seen significant advancement," he said.

Modi visits Independence Monument

After reaching Tashkent, Modi visited Yangi Uzbekiston Park and laid a wreath at the Independence Monument. Mirziyoyev accompanied him during the visit to the monument, which was established to mark the 30th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence.

The Prime Minister will also visit the Shastri Memorial and the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

The visits are expected to highlight the historical and cultural links between India and Uzbekistan.

Modi to attend SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan

After completing his Uzbekistan visit, Modi will travel to Kyrgyzstan to attend the 26th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

The summit marks the 25th anniversary of the SCO. India has been a full member of the organisation since 2017.

The Uzbekistan visit and the subsequent SCO summit will provide Modi an opportunity to engage with Central Asian partners and discuss issues of regional cooperation.
