PM Modi calls Opposition ‘Avrodh Paksh’, warns of ‘dimagi Naxals’ threat

PM Modi targets Rahul Gandhi in veiled remarks over foreign meetings and alleged anti-India links

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday accused the Opposition of obstructing the country's progress instead of performing its democratic role, calling it an "Avrodh Paksh" (obstructive force) rather than a "Virodh Paksh" (opposition).

Addressing the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas gathering at Parade Ground in Gujarat's Ekta Nagar, marking the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, PM Modi urged people to remain united against forces he alleged were attempting to divide the country.

"It is our misfortune that the Opposition has turned into Avrodh Paksh," he said.

His remarks came on a day when Opposition INDIA bloc leaders held a symbolic public impeachment event against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi. The Opposition has accused the Election Commission of electoral irregularities.

PM Modi's veiled reference to Rahul Gandhi's foreign visits

Without naming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi questioned the purpose of meetings allegedly held by people abroad and suggested that forces opposed to India were supporting certain individuals.

"Who is secretly meeting whom in foreign countries? Forces opposed to India are extending their support to whom? Who is speaking the language of India's enemies?" he asked.

The Prime Minister alleged that the Opposition wanted to divide people and weaken national unity. He also accused certain forces of using social media to spread misinformation and damage India's international image.

"Social media is being used as a weapon, rumours are being spread, and India's image is being tarnished," he said, calling for a united response to such activities.

'Dimagi Naxals' remain a threat, says PM Modi

PM Modi also claimed that the country had fulfilled its pledge to eliminate Naxalism and Maoism, recalling his promise at the previous year's Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations.

"I said last year that we would not rest until the country was free from Naxalism and Maoism; that promise has been fulfilled. Though we have finished Naxals, the threat of 'dimagi Naxals' remains very high," he said.

The Prime Minister had earlier said that the backbone of armed Naxalism had been broken. The 2026 celebrations also highlighted the end of armed Naxalism, with police and Central Armed Police Forces contingents participating in the Ekta Parade.

However, PM Modi said the country still needed to remain vigilant against what he described as 'dimagi Naxalism', or intellectual Naxalism.

Border security, infiltration and secular civil code among priorities

Outlining the government's priorities, PM Modi said India's next major steps would include fully securing its borders, stopping infiltration and preventing demographic changes.

He also called for progress towards a secular civil code, presenting it as part of the country's broader national objectives.

"'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' (One India, Best India) and 'Vikshit Bharat' are our two goals," he said.

PM Modi added that India was moving forward on the path shown by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose role in unifying the country after Independence is commemorated through Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.
