‘It was not an accident ’: Attempt to murder charge added after woman biker rammed in Gurugram

Gurugram Police have invoked the attempt to murder charge and arrested two people after a woman biker was allegedly stalked and deliberately rammed by a car on Golf Course Road, escalating a case that the victim and her family insisted was not an ordinary road accident. The action came after the family sought stringent charges over the incident, alleging that the car occupants followed the woman before intentionally hitting her motorcycle and fleeing the spot. Video footage of the episode had circulated widely on social media and triggered outrage over the circumstances leading to the collision.

The woman biker, identified as Sia Shivani Chauhan, was riding with members of a biking group when the incident occurred. She alleged that a car began following her and its occupants asked her to pull over. According to her account, she continued riding while the vehicle remained behind her, prompting another biker in the group to position his motorcycle between her and the pursuing car in an attempt to shield her. The car allegedly manoeuvred around before hitting her motorcycle, leaving her injured.

Section 307 invoked

Following further investigation and representations from the family, police added Section 307, pertaining to attempt to murder, to the case and arrested two accused. The addition of the more serious charge marked a significant shift from treating the episode merely as a road accident, with investigators now examining allegations that the collision was deliberate.

Chauhan’s family had approached the Sector 56 police station demanding stronger action and maintained that the manner in which the vehicle moved across the road before hitting her demonstrated intent. Her father, Roshan Chauhan, argued that his daughter could have been killed and questioned why the occupants fled after the collision if it had simply been an accident.

Biker alleged stalking

The victim also disputed the version attributed to the accused that she had been riding erratically. In her account of the incident, she questioned why the car continued following the bikers if its occupants merely had a problem with her riding. Her family alleged that the vehicle deliberately changed its course before striking the motorcycle.

The incident was captured on video, providing investigators with footage of events surrounding the collision. The recording became central to the family's demand that police examine the episode as an intentional attack rather than solely through the lens of negligent driving.

Two accused arrested

Police subsequently arrested two people in connection with the case as the investigation widened to determine the sequence of events before the woman was struck. Investigators are expected to examine the available video footage, statements of the victim and other bikers present at the scene, and the conduct of the accused before and after the collision.

The case has also renewed attention on road rage and the vulnerability of two-wheeler riders on Gurugram’s high-speed corridors. The distinction between an accident caused by reckless driving and the intentional use of a vehicle to cause harm is now at the heart of the investigation. With Section 307 invoked and two arrests made, police will have to establish whether the evidence supports the allegation that the car was deliberately used to target the biker on Golf Course Road.
