India facilitating supply of life-saving medicines to Iran amid airspace row

MEA says ongoing West Asia conflict has created fresh challenges for flight connectivity between India and Iran

India on Friday said it continues to facilitate the transportation of life-saving medicines to Iran as a humanitarian gesture, amid reports that certain Iranian aircraft were denied permission to use Indian airspace.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the ongoing conflict in West Asia had created new challenges for flight connectivity between the two countries.

"We have and continue to facilitate transport of life-saving medicines to Iran. As you are aware, the ongoing conflict in the region has posed new challenges to the flight connectivity between our two countries," Jaiswal said.

He was responding to questions about reports that India had denied permission to certain Iranian aircraft to use its airspace.

"We continue to be in communication with our Iranian counterparts to facilitate transportation of life-saving medicines as a humanitarian gesture," the MEA spokesperson said.

The ministry's response emphasised India's continued engagement with Iran on humanitarian shipments despite disruptions to air connectivity arising from the regional conflict.

Jaiswal did not directly confirm or deny the reported refusal of airspace permission to Iranian aircraft.
