DG Paramesh Sivamani takes charge as 26th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard

With over 35 years of distinguished service, DG Sivamani brings extensive expertise in navigation and leadership in maritime operations to the forefront of the Indian Coast Guard

DG Paramesh Sivamani has officially assumed the role of the 26th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). With a remarkable career spanning more than three and a half decades, he has held various key positions in both shore-based and afloat appointments.

Specializing in Navigation and Direction, DG Sivamani has commanded several major ICG vessels, including the Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel ‘Samar’ and the Offshore Patrol Vessel ‘Vishwast.’ His previous roles include leadership positions such as Commander of the Coast Guard Region (East) and Coast Guard Region (West), as well as Commander of the Eastern Seaboard.

An alumnus of the National Defence College in New Delhi and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, DG Sivamani rose to the rank of Additional Director General in September 2022 before being appointed to the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi. He was entrusted with the additional charge of Director General Coast Guard in August 2024.

Throughout his tenure, he has overseen numerous significant operations and exercises, which include the seizure of narcotics and gold worth crores of rupees, rescue missions for mariners during severe cyclonic storms, joint exercises with foreign coast guards, anti-poaching operations, and humanitarian assistance during natural calamities.

In recognition of his outstanding service, DG Sivamani was awarded the Tatrakshak Medal in 2014 and the President Tatrakshak Medal in 2019. He has also received the DG Coast Guard Commendation in 2012 and the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Commendation in 2009, highlighting his contributions to maritime security and operations.
