Customs seize 26 smuggled iPhone 16 pro max units concealed in passenger's vanity bag

Customs authorities intercepted a woman passenger at the airport with 26 iPhone 16 Pro Max hidden in her vanity bag, valued over Rs 37 lakh. Investigations underway for possible smuggling network

Customs officials at the international airport seized 26 newly-launched iPhone 16 Pro Max units concealed in the vanity bag of a woman passenger arriving from Hong Kong. The passenger, in her late thirties, was intercepted on Tuesday, prompting a detailed search of her personal belongings.

The iPhones, wrapped in tissue papers, were found during a thorough baggage inspection. While the woman has not been arrested yet, authorities are investigating the possibility of a larger smuggling syndicate involved in trafficking high-end electronics.

The seized iPhones were valued at approximately Rs 30,66,328 under the Customs Act, 1962. The total market price of the consignment in India exceeds Rs 37 lakh, as per the Apple India website. Customs officials are continuing their investigation to determine whether this case is part of a wider smuggling operation. They remain vigilant in enforcing regulations on the importation of luxury electronic goods.
