CJP's Saurav Das sues commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra for Rs 2 crore over home address disclosure

The CJP spokesperson alleges that videos and social media posts exposed his residence, putting his privacy and family's safety at risk

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das has moved the Delhi High Court against political commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra and several media organisations, seeking Rs 2 crore in damages over the alleged disclosure of his residential address and other personal details.

Das has claimed that the publication and circulation of the information amounted to a violation of his privacy and put him and his family at greater risk.

Suit alleges residence was filmed

According to the suit, Das has been living in a rented house in Greater Kailash since early 2025. He has alleged that representatives of a media platform entered the property without permission, recorded parts of the residence and later shared the footage on X on August 5.

The video, according to the petition, crossed 2.1 million views and was republished on August 10.

Das has also named a legal news portal, a media platform and social media accounts linked to another portal and a newspaper among the defendants.

Alleged disclosure of rent and neighbour's details

Das has alleged that Iyer Mitra disclosed details about his residence during a programme hosted by the news portal. According to the suit, the commentator identified one of Das's neighbours and incorrectly claimed that the monthly rent for the property was around Rs 7 lakh.

Das further alleged that Iyer Mitra later published multiple posts containing what he described as his personal information.

The suit argues that the repeated publication of such details has consequences beyond a privacy violation, particularly because Das claims to have previously faced violent threats.

"The repeated disclosure of his personal information, particularly in light of his prior exposure to violent threats, materially increases the risk of hostile persons locating his residence and exposes him and his family members to intimidation, harassment and physical violence," the suit said.

Das seeks damages and removal of content

Apart from the Rs 2 crore damages, Das has asked the Delhi High Court to restrain the defendants from publishing or circulating the alleged personal information any further.

He has also sought directions for the removal of the videos that allegedly reveal details about his residence.

The case centres on Das's allegations that his private information was made public without his consent. The suit names multiple defendants over the alleged publication and dissemination of the information and seeks both financial damages and restrictions on further circulation of the material.
