Nitin Nabin to interact with newly appointed office-bearers as party begins organisational push ahead of key Assembly elections and 2029 Lok Sabha battle

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s newly constituted national team is likely to hold its first meeting on August 22, days after party president Nitin Nabin announced a major organisational reshuffle bringing together experienced leaders and several new faces.

According to party sources, the introductory meeting of the new national office-bearers will be held on the morning of August 22, with Nabin expected to interact with members and outline the organisational priorities before them.

The meeting assumes significance as the BJP begins preparations for a series of Assembly elections scheduled next year while simultaneously building its organisational machinery for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

New team unveiled

The BJP announced its revamped team of national office-bearers on Monday, marking one of the most significant organisational changes since Nabin took charge as national president.

The new structure includes 13 national vice-presidents, eight national general secretaries and 16 national secretaries. The party has sought to strike a balance between organisational continuity and the induction of leaders from different states, age groups and social backgrounds.

Among the prominent leaders appointed national vice-presidents are former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, Ram Madhav, Baijayant Jay Panda and Manpreet Singh Badal.

Former Union minister Smriti Irani has been brought into the organisation as a national general secretary, while B L Santhosh continues as national general secretary (organisation), one of the most influential organisational positions in the party.

Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal have also been retained as national general secretaries.

Goyal gets key role

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed the BJP’s national treasurer.

The appointment has a family connection with the party’s organisational history as Goyal’s father, Ved Prakash Goyal, had also served for a long period as BJP treasurer besides holding ministerial responsibilities in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

The party has also changed the leadership of its frontal organisations. Hemang Joshi has been appointed president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, replacing Tejasvi Surya.

Roop Kumari Choudhary has taken charge of the BJP Mahila Morcha, while Amarpal Maurya has been appointed OBC Morcha president.

Anil Baluni continues as the party’s national media convenor, assisted by three new co-convenors — Ashish Usha Agrawal, Pradeep Bhandari and Siddharth Yadav.

Focus on representation

The composition of the new team reflects the BJP leadership’s attempt to expand regional and social representation within its national organisational structure.

The party has given considerable space to women and younger leaders while also including representatives from minority communities.

The North-East has received particular attention in the new organisational arrangement, with leaders from Assam, Tripura and Nagaland finding representation. The party has also continued its dedicated North-East Coordination Cell under Sambit Patra.

Several leaders who have previously occupied important positions in the party or government have returned to prominent organisational roles, while a number of relatively new faces have been elevated.

Poll preparations

The August 22 meeting is expected to serve as the first opportunity for Nabin to collectively address his newly assembled team and establish its immediate organisational agenda.

The BJP faces important electoral contests over the coming period, making coordination between the central organisation and state units a key priority.

The leadership is also expected to focus on strengthening the party at the grassroots, improving coordination among office-bearers and expanding its organisational presence in politically crucial regions.

The new team will ultimately have the larger responsibility of preparing the organisation for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, making the August 22 gathering an early step in shaping the BJP’s strategy for the next national electoral cycle.
