Amit Shah to attend national security conference in Delhi on August 24-25
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the ninth National Security Strategies (NSS) Conference in New Delhi on August 24 and 25, bringing together senior police and security officials from across the country for discussions on key challenges confronting India's security apparatus. More than 850 officers from different police and security forces are expected to participate in the two-day conference, which will be conducted in a hybrid format, allowing officials to join both physically and virtually.
The deliberations will focus on contemporary national security issues and emerging challenges, with the conference providing a platform for officers working at different levels of the security establishment to exchange assessments and operational experiences.
Annual security exercise
The National Security Strategies Conference was conceived following a direction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Director Generals of Police and Inspectors General of Police Conference in 2016. The initiative was designed to create a regular forum where major national security challenges could be examined by combining the experience of officers working on the ground with the expertise of specialists in relevant fields.
Since 2021, the conference has been organised in hybrid mode to enable wider participation by officers from across the country. The ninth edition continues that format, with officials expected to examine security concerns from both strategic and operational perspectives.
Participation widens
The scale of participation has increased over successive editions. Around 800 officers took part in the eighth National Security Strategies Conference in New Delhi in July 2025. Shah inaugurated that two-day meeting and also addressed its concluding session. Senior officials who participated in the previous edition included the Union Home Secretary, Deputy National Security Adviser and heads of the Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organisations. This year's gathering, with more than 850 officers expected to participate, will once again bring together personnel from police and security organisations across the country as they deliberate on evolving threats and the strategies required to address them.
