Air India Frankfurt-Delhi flight diverted to Jaipur after hijacking alert

Hijacking rumour prompts diversion of Frankfurt-Delhi Air India flight to Jaipur

An Air India flight travelling from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur International Airport after a security alert was reported as the aircraft approached Indian airspace. The aircraft landed safely, and preliminary information indicated that the alert may have been linked to a hijacking rumour rather than a bomb threat.

Flight AI 2030 was taken to an isolation bay after landing, where security personnel began inspecting the aircraft and passengers’ luggage. Teams from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), local police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were involved in the checks.

An airport source told Hindustan Times that the alert concerned a rumoured hijacking and not a bomb threat, although officials had yet to issue a formal confirmation.

“It was a hijacking rumour, not a bomb threat. It’s too early to comment officially on the matter. An investigation is underway,” an airport official said on condition of anonymity.

Passengers and crew evacuated safely

According to preliminary information, Air Traffic Control (ATC) and security agencies were alerted as the aircraft approached Indian airspace. The flight was subsequently diverted to Jaipur as a precaution.

All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated after the aircraft landed and taken to a designated holding area inside the airport terminal.

Security agencies began examining the aircraft and baggage to establish whether there was any threat and determine the circumstances that prompted the alert.

Investigation underway

The origin and precise nature of the alert remained unclear at the time of reporting. Airport authorities and Air India had not issued an official statement, and further details were awaited as the investigation continued.

The initial reports of a possible bomb threat had not been officially confirmed, while the airport source indicated that the incident involved a hijacking rumour.
