AIMIM’s Waqar Hasan joins Congress ahead of Uttar Pradesh polls

Explaining his decision, Waqar made it clear that he sees the Congress as the principal force taking on the BJP at the national level.

“In reality if someone is fighting the BJP across the country it is Congress, Rahul Gandhi and his team.”

His remarks underline his support for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the party’s wider political campaign against the BJP.

Waqar’s move also comes at a time when political alignments in Uttar Pradesh are taking shape ahead of the Assembly elections. The state is expected to witness a contest involving the BJP and an opposition challenge led by the Samajwadi Party and Congress.
