Tired of searching for videos? YouTube's new custom feeds aim to make it easier

The homepage features a streamlined top bar, quicker access to content categories and custom feeds for personalised recommendations

YouTube has introduced a redesigned homepage that aims to help users find their preferred content with fewer steps. Announced through the platform's official Updates From YouTube account on X, the refresh brings a cleaner top bar and a new feature that allows users to customise their recommendations through dedicated feeds.

The changes bring several content categories closer to the homepage, giving users quicker access to subscriptions, Movies & TV, Live and Music. The updated navigation also includes custom feeds, allowing viewers to organise recommendations around their interests rather than relying only on the platform's existing suggestions.

Custom feeds let users personalise recommendations

The new custom feeds feature allows users to describe the kind of videos they want to watch without having to search for specific keywords. They can enter a topic, describe an interest or use a general mood or “vibe” to guide the recommendations.

YouTube then generates a feed based on that description. The recommendations are refreshed as new matching videos become available, giving users a way to discover fresh content without repeatedly searching for it.

For instance, a user interested in a particular hobby or a certain style of video can create a dedicated feed and return to it to find relevant uploads. The feature is designed to go beyond a conventional saved search by allowing users to describe what they want in their own words.

Users can also manage these feeds directly from the top bar. YouTube says they can add, edit or remove custom feeds whenever they want, keeping control over the content categories they see.

Homepage refresh follows other YouTube updates

The redesign comes amid a series of changes announced by the company in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, YouTube expanded Ask YouTube, its conversational search feature, to mobile devices in the US. The tool is available across the web, phones and TVs, allowing users to ask detailed questions and narrow down results through follow-up queries.

YouTube Music has also started rolling out labels identifying songs made primarily with generative AI. The move follows requests from listeners seeking greater clarity about whether music has been AI-generated. YouTube has said similar labels will also be introduced on its main platform.

The homepage refresh adds another layer of personalisation, bringing navigation and tailored video discovery closer together.
