Range Rover Sport Electric unveiled with 609 km range, bookings open in India

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has unveiled the Range Rover Sport Electric, its first fully electric model in the Sport line-up, with a claimed driving range of up to 609 km on a single charge. The British luxury carmaker has opened bookings for the SUV in India, with its market launch expected around March 2027 and prices estimated between Rs 2.40 crore and Rs 2.50 crore.

The new electric SUV shares its battery technology and underlying architecture with the larger Range Rover Electric but has been engineered to deliver sportier driving characteristics. It will be manufactured at JLR's Solihull facility in the United Kingdom alongside petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions of the Range Rover Sport.

Dual motors deliver 550 hp

The Range Rover Sport Electric is built on JLR's 800-volt Flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA-Flex). It features two electric motors, one on each axle, delivering up to 550 hp and 850 Nm of torque through an all-wheel-drive system.

JLR claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds using Dynamic Launch Mode, matching the acceleration figure of the V8-powered Range Rover Sport. The company also claims that torque builds 50 per cent faster than in the larger Range Rover Electric, while the electric model produces more torque than any previous Range Rover Sport.

Battery promises 609 km range

The SUV is equipped with a 118.5 kWh lithium-ion battery offering a claimed WLTP driving range of 609 km. The company estimates a real-world driving range of approximately 535 km, although actual performance will depend on driving conditions, temperature and other factors.

The vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 22 minutes under suitable conditions. According to JLR, a 10-minute charging session can add up to 220 km of driving range.

The battery comes with a standard warranty of eight years or 1.6 lakh km, whichever comes first. The company has also introduced remote battery health monitoring technology to support long-term performance and maintenance.

Advanced suspension and off-road capability

JLR has strengthened the vehicle's body structure and lowered its centre of gravity to improve handling and stability. The electric SUV features double-wishbone front suspension, a five-link rear suspension arrangement, electronic active roll control and twin-valve dampers.

Additional technologies include all-wheel steering, intelligent traction management and an advanced all-wheel-drive system. The company claims the SUV can negotiate water depths of up to 900 mm and climb inclines of up to 45 degrees, retaining the off-road capabilities associated with the Range Rover brand.

Familiar exterior with electric-specific changes

The Range Rover Sport Electric retains much of the exterior design of its combustion-powered counterpart. It features sleek LED headlights, an aerodynamically optimised front grille, flush-fitting door handles and alloy wheels measuring up to 22 inches.

Subtle changes distinguish the electric version, including aerodynamic wheel inserts and electric-specific badging. Customers can choose from four variants — Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition — along with optional exterior customisation packages.

The First Edition features Zadar Grey paint with a satin finish, a contrasting black roof and 22-inch alloy wheels. Buyers selecting the Autobiography variant will also have access to the company's Range Rover Bespoke personalisation programme.

Luxury cabin retains familiar layout

Inside, the electric SUV retains the dashboard layout of the conventional Range Rover Sport. It features a 13.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 13.7-inch digital instrument display and a three-spoke steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls.

The five-seat cabin offers four-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, rear sunblinds and electrically adjustable seats. Heating and ventilation functions are available for both front and rear passengers, while the digital displays incorporate electric vehicle-specific information.

India launch expected in March 2027

JLR has opened order books for the Range Rover Sport Electric in India, although official prices have not yet been announced. The SUV is expected to arrive around March 2027 as a fully imported model, with an estimated ex-showroom price of approximately Rs 2.50 crore.

The electric model is expected to command a substantial premium over the conventional Range Rover Sport, which is currently priced between Rs 1.43 crore and Rs 1.60 crore for non-SV variants. Its introduction will expand JLR's electric vehicle portfolio in India's luxury SUV market.
