MG launches Hector Tomahawk EV, plug-in hybrid in India

JSW MG Motor India on Wednesday launched the MG Hector Tomahawk in electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions, expanding its new-energy vehicle portfolio in the country.

The Hector Tomahawk is the first model based on the company's Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology (ADAPT), which MG describes as India's first Multi-New Energy Vehicle platform. The company said bookings for both versions have opened across its dealerships and website.

The Hector Tomahawk EV has an introductory Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) price starting at Rs 13.99 lakh, along with a battery rental charge of Rs 4.90 per km. The PHEV starts at Rs 21.79 lakh under BaaS, with battery rental of Rs 3.20 per km. These prices will be available for a limited number of bookings.

For customers opting for full vehicle ownership, the EV carries an introductory ex-showroom price starting at Rs 19.49 lakh, while the PHEV starts at Rs 25.69 lakh. The EV will be available in five- and seven-seat configurations, while the PHEV will be offered only as a seven-seater.

EV offers claimed 517-km range

The Hector Tomahawk EV is equipped with a 69.2 kWh battery pack paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 150 kW of power and 310 Nm of torque. MG claims a certified driving range of 517 km on a single charge. The vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 90 kW.

The PHEV combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. It offers more than 115 km of pure-electric driving range, according to the company, while the combined petrol-electric range exceeds 1,100 km on a full tank and full charge.

Its 148 kW electric motor enables the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in about nine seconds. The hybrid system can operate in four modes — pure electric, series hybrid, parallel hybrid and engine direct drive — depending on driving conditions.

The company has also introduced Vehicle-to-Home capability with the Hector Tomahawk, allowing energy stored in the vehicle's battery to be used to power appliances, outdoor equipment and homes.

Large touchscreen, Level 2 ADAS

Measuring 4,745 mm in length and 1,770 mm in height, the Hector Tomahawk has a 2,810 mm wheelbase and 230 mm of ground clearance at the battery. Exterior features include Beacon Lights, an illuminated MG logo, alloy wheels and an automatic power tailgate.

Inside, the SUV gets a 15.6-inch HD infotainment display, an 8.8-inch driver information display, ventilated front seats, powered driver and co-driver seats, a panoramic sunroof and a 10-speaker Infinity audio system. The five-seater version offers boot capacity of up to 610 litres.

The Hector Tomahawk is equipped with the company's i-SMART 3.0 connected-car platform with more than 80 features. MG has also introduced a GenAI-powered voice assistant capable of handling more than 30 Hinglish voice commands, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and over-the-air software updates.

On the safety front, six airbags are standard across variants. Other equipment includes electronic stability control, traction control, hill-hold control, ABS with EBD, tyre-pressure monitoring, all-wheel disc brakes and a 360-degree camera. Level 2 ADAS functions include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking.

JSW MG Motor India said it will provide a lifetime battery warranty to the first owner of both the EV and PHEV. Deliveries of the Hector Tomahawk EV are scheduled to begin in September, while PHEV test drives and deliveries will start in November.
