Mercedes-AMG G 63 Offroad Pro launched in India at Rs 3.80 crore with tougher hardware

Mercedes-Benz has launched the Mercedes-AMG G 63 Offroad Pro in India at Rs 3.80 crore, ex-showroom, introducing a more off-road-focused version of its high-performance G-Class with additional protective hardware, all-terrain equipment and distinctive cosmetic touches.

The Offroad Pro sits alongside the regular AMG G 63 in the Indian line-up and is aimed at buyers who want greater off-road capability without giving up the performance and luxury associated with the flagship G-Class. Mercedes-Benz has positioned the new derivative as a more specialised interpretation of the G 63 rather than a mechanically different performance model.

More serious off-road kit

The biggest changes are visible on the outside. The G 63 Offroad Pro receives additional protective elements designed for use away from paved roads, including underbody protection and equipment intended to make the SUV better suited to rough terrain.

It gets 20-inch AMG wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres, while a roof-mounted luggage carrier adds to its expedition-oriented appearance and provides additional carrying capacity. A rear-mounted ladder allows easier access to the roof rack.

Mercedes has also equipped the model with mud flaps and other rugged exterior elements that distinguish it from the standard G 63. The package builds on the G-Class’s traditional ladder-frame construction and off-road hardware rather than attempting to turn the SUV into an entirely new variant.

The familiar boxy silhouette, exposed spare wheel, upright windscreen and squared-off bodywork remain intact. The Offroad Pro treatment instead concentrates on functional additions around the existing G 63 design.

V8 remains unchanged

Under the bonnet, the G 63 Offroad Pro continues with AMG’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine. It produces 585hp and 850Nm of torque and is paired with a 9-speed AMG Speedshift automatic gearbox.

The engine is supplemented by a 48V mild-hybrid system, whose integrated starter-generator can provide an additional 20hp for short periods.

Despite its size, weight and off-road equipment, the AMG G 63 remains firmly in performance-car territory. Mercedes claims a 0-100kph time of 4.4 seconds, while power is sent to all four wheels through the AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

The SUV retains the G-Class’s three differential locks, which remain central to its ability to tackle difficult terrain. The latest-generation G 63 also uses AMG Active Ride Control suspension, which replaces conventional anti-roll bars with a hydraulically interconnected system designed to improve both on-road body control and wheel articulation off-road.

Cabin stays luxurious

Inside, the Offroad Pro largely retains the equipment and luxury of the standard AMG G 63 rather than adopting the stripped-back approach traditionally associated with specialised off-road vehicles.

The cabin combines AMG-specific displays and controls with the G-Class’s familiar upright dashboard architecture. Digital instrumentation, a large infotainment display, premium upholstery and extensive comfort and convenience equipment continue to feature.

Its additional exterior equipment therefore represents a contrast to the cabin, allowing the G 63 to retain its luxury positioning while giving owners more hardware for off-road excursions.

The model also continues to offer selectable driving programmes for different surfaces, allowing the powertrain, suspension and electronic systems to adapt to changing conditions.

G-Class range expands

The Offroad Pro arrives as Mercedes-Benz continues to expand the G-Class portfolio in India, where the SUV has developed a strong following despite its position at the top end of the luxury market.

The standard AMG G 63 remains the performance-focused offering, while the Offroad Pro adds a more specialised option for customers seeking additional capability and visual distinction.

At Rs 3.80 crore before options, registration and insurance, the new model carries a substantial premium over the regular AMG G 63. Its combination of a 585hp V8, three locking differentials and more purposeful off-road equipment, however, makes it one of the most extreme factory versions of the performance G-Class available in India.
