Maserati launches GT2 Stradale in India at Rs 5.72 crore, limited to 914 units

The road-legal model received race-inspired aerodynamics, a lighter carbon-fibre chassis and upgraded suspension, steering and braking systems

Italian luxury carmaker Maserati on Friday launched its GT2 Stradale supercar in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 5.72 crore, introducing a road-legal, track-focused performance model inspired by the company's GT2 racing programme.

Based on the Maserati MC20, the GT2 Stradale features a more powerful engine, extensive aerodynamic modifications and several chassis upgrades designed to improve its performance on racing circuits while retaining road usability.

Production of the model is limited to 914 units worldwide, a number chosen to commemorate 1914, the year Maserati was founded. The company has not disclosed how many units will be allocated to the Indian market.

The GT2 Stradale is powered by a 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 petrol engine producing 640 horsepower and 720 Nm of peak torque. The engine develops 10hp more than the standard MC20 and is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels.

Maserati claims the supercar can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 324 kmph.

The vehicle has a dry weight of 1,365 kg, making it 60 kg lighter than the standard MC20. The reduction has been achieved through extensive use of lightweight materials and racing-derived components.

The car offers four driving modes — Wet, GT, Sport and Corsa — allowing drivers to adjust its performance characteristics according to road and track conditions.

The GT2 Stradale incorporates an aerodynamic package inspired by Maserati's GT2 race car, with significant changes to the front and rear bodywork.

A redesigned front bumper, front diffuser and additional vents on the bonnet and front wheel arches help improve airflow, release hot air and reduce pressure around the vehicle.

Larger rear air intakes improve cooling airflow to the engine and radiators by 16 per cent, according to Maserati.

At the rear, the supercar features a prominent adjustable wing with three settings, along with a redesigned diffuser to improve aerodynamic stability.

In its high-drag configuration, the GT2 Stradale generates up to 500 kg of downforce at 280 kmph, compared with 145 kg produced by the standard MC20 at the same speed.

The additional downforce is intended to improve grip and stability during high-speed driving and cornering.

The GT2 Stradale uses the same carbon-fibre monocoque chassis architecture as the MC20 and Maserati's GT2 race car.

It is equipped with revised suspension, steering and braking systems derived from the racing model, aimed at improving handling precision and performance under demanding driving conditions.

The supercar rides on 20-inch single-nut forged wheels inspired by the GT2 race car. These wheels reduce weight by approximately 19 kg compared with the standard units.

For everyday usability, Maserati has also included a front-axle lift system that raises the vehicle's nose by 35 mm, helping it clear speed breakers and other obstacles.

Buyers can choose between two optional performance packages to enhance the car's track capabilities.

The Performance Pack adds Michelin semi-slick tyres, an electronic limited-slip differential and carbon-ceramic brakes.

The Performance Pack Plus includes additional safety equipment, such as four-point seatbelts, a mounting bracket and a fire extinguisher.

Both packages also introduce the Corsa Evo driving mode, which provides four levels of electronic assistance and allows drivers to adjust the intervention of the vehicle's control systems.

Inside, the GT2 Stradale retains the basic cabin layout of the MC20 but receives several changes to reflect its track-oriented character.

The interior features Alcantara upholstery, a redesigned central tunnel and dark finishes intended to minimise reflections during driving.

A carbon-fibre steering wheel incorporates integrated shift lights and paddle shifters, while lightweight carbon-fibre racing seats are available in two sizes.

The supercar also features butterfly doors, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a central infotainment display and a 100-litre luggage compartment.

Driver assistance features, cameras and parking sensors have been retained to support everyday road use.

The GT2 Stradale's India launch follows the introduction of the MCPura, an updated version of the MC20 that retains the 630hp Nettuno V6 engine, carbon-fibre construction and butterfly doors.

The MCPura is available in coupe and convertible Cielo versions, with prices starting at Rs 4.35 crore and Rs 5.20 crore, respectively.

Maserati also introduced updates to its Grecale, GranTurismo and GranCabrio models in India, expanding its luxury and high-performance portfolio.

At Rs 5.72 crore, the GT2 Stradale sits above the MCPura range and targets buyers seeking a limited-production supercar combining motorsport-derived engineering with road-legal performance.
