Kawasaki unveils all-new Versys 900 with 948cc engine, radar-based safety technology
Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki has unveiled the all-new Versys 900 and Versys 900 SE, expanding its adventure-touring motorcycle portfolio with a new model positioned between the Versys 650 and the flagship Versys 1100. Based on the Z900 platform, the motorcycle combines a powerful four-cylinder engine with touring-focused ergonomics, improved suspension and advanced radar-based rider assistance technology.
The Versys 900 has been introduced in Standard and SE variants, with overseas availability scheduled to begin in April 2027. Although Kawasaki has not announced an India launch, the motorcycle is expected to reach the domestic market during the first half of next year.
The new model marks a significant expansion of the Versys family, offering an alternative for riders seeking more performance than the Versys 650 without moving up to the larger and more expensive Versys 1100.

At the heart of the Versys 900 is a 948cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four-cylinder engine derived from the Kawasaki Z900 street motorcycle. The engine produces 122 PS at 9,500 rpm and peak torque of 97.3 Nm at 8,000 rpm, with its output tuned to suit the demands of long-distance touring.
Compared with the Z900, the Versys 900 offers slightly lower peak output, with the emphasis placed on delivering smooth acceleration, manageable power delivery and strong performance across a broad range of engine speeds.
The motorcycle features a six-speed gearbox with a bidirectional quickshifter, allowing riders to change gears without operating the clutch under suitable riding conditions. A slip-and-assist clutch, electronic throttle control and selectable power modes are also included.
Kawasaki has developed an entirely new trellis frame for the motorcycle, designed to provide a balance between structural rigidity, handling stability and comfort. The manufacturer claims the chassis achieves nearly equal weight distribution between the front and rear, contributing to predictable handling.

One of the biggest highlights of the Versys 900 is the introduction of Kawasaki's Advanced Rider Assistance Systems (ARAS), making it the first motorcycle in the Versys family to receive this technology.
The system uses front and rear radar sensors to support adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and blind-spot detection. An emergency stop signal function is also included to help alert following vehicles during sudden braking.
Adaptive cruise control is designed to assist riders in maintaining a suitable distance from vehicles ahead, while blind-spot detection provides warnings about vehicles approaching from areas that may be difficult to see.
The motorcycle also receives a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU), Kawasaki Cornering Management Function, traction control, enhanced anti-lock braking and integrated riding modes.
Together, these features make the Versys 900 one of the most technologically advanced motorcycles in Kawasaki's adventure-touring range.

The Versys 900 features upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock with a linkage system, designed to balance handling performance with comfort over long journeys.
Unlike conventional off-road-focused adventure motorcycles, the Versys 900 rides on 17-inch wheels at both ends, reflecting its emphasis on paved-road touring and sporty handling.
The standard seat height is 825 mm, with an option to increase it to 845 mm. Kawasaki has also incorporated an upright riding position, a seven-position adjustable windscreen and a fuel tank shaped to provide comfortable knee grip and easier access to the ground.
The motorcycle's bodywork follows Kawasaki's new Aero Edge design philosophy, giving it a sharper and more contemporary appearance while retaining the characteristic tall stance of the Versys family.
A five-inch colour TFT instrument display provides riding information and smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki's Rideology application. The system also supports turn-by-turn navigation and offers two display layouts, allowing riders to prioritise either vehicle information or navigation instructions.
For touring enthusiasts, Kawasaki has developed an optional luggage system comprising a 47-litre top case and two 32-litre panniers.

The higher-specification Versys 900 SE adds several accessories intended to improve comfort, convenience and protection during long-distance travel.
These include LED fog lamps, hand guards, heated grips, a radiator guard, frame-protection sliders, a lower engine cowl and a centre stand, all offered as standard equipment.
Kawasaki has also indicated that additional touring-oriented editions, including Tourer and Grand Tourer versions, could be introduced with factory-approved accessories.
The Standard variant will be available in Metallic Spark Black and Pearl Robotic White, while the SE version receives Plasma Lime Green with Metallic Spark Black and Firecracker Red with Metallic Carbon Gray colour combinations.

In the United Kingdom, the Standard Versys 900 is priced at GBP 10,899, equivalent to approximately Rs 13.74 lakh at the exchange rate used in the initial report. The Versys 900 SE costs GBP 11,799, equivalent to around Rs 14.87 lakh.
These are overseas prices and do not indicate the motorcycle's eventual Indian pricing.
Kawasaki currently sells the Versys-X 300, Versys 650 and Versys 1100 in India. The Versys 650 is priced at Rs 8.63 lakh, while the Versys 1100 costs Rs 13.89 lakh, both ex-showroom.
If introduced in India, the Versys 900 is expected to be positioned between these two motorcycles, although its final price and equipment specifications remain unconfirmed.
The Standard variant is considered the more likely candidate for the Indian market, while the more expensive SE version may not be introduced initially.
With its four-cylinder engine, comprehensive electronic rider aids and touring-focused design, the Versys 900 is expected to strengthen Kawasaki's position in the premium sports-touring motorcycle segment.
