Jeep Compass Sport diesel automatic launched at Rs 21.99 lakh
Jeep India on Monday launched the Compass Sport diesel automatic at Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom), introducing a nine-speed automatic transmission to the entry-level Sport variant for the first time. The addition makes it the most affordable automatic version of the Compass available in the Indian market.
The new Compass Sport 9AT is aimed at customers seeking the convenience of an automatic transmission without having to purchase one of the SUV's higher variants. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second week of November 2026 through Jeep dealerships and Stellantis Brand Houses across the country.
The company has retained the existing diesel engine and front-wheel-drive configuration while adding several safety and convenience features to the new variant.
Engine and transmission
The Compass Sport 9AT is powered by Jeep's 2.0-litre MultiJet II four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 170hp and 350Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.
The Sport variant was previously available only with a six-speed manual transmission. The introduction of the automatic gearbox expands the choices available to buyers at the lower end of the Compass range.
Jeep has also retained its Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) suspension, designed to improve ride comfort across different road conditions. The variant continues to feature Dynamic Steering Torque (DST), which assists steering response and vehicle handling.
The wider Compass line-up remains available with manual and automatic transmissions, along with two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations, depending on the variant.
Exterior design and styling
The new automatic variant retains the exterior design of the existing Compass Sport, with no major styling changes.
It features LED headlamps with daytime running lights, chrome inserts around the front grille, chrome window surrounds and 17-inch silver-finished alloy wheels.
Other exterior elements include black outside rearview mirror housings with integrated turn indicators, a rear spoiler and a shark-fin antenna.
Customers can also opt for an additional styling package that introduces a Swoosh decal running along the shoulder line and rear pillars.
The accessory package includes mud flaps and all-weather floor mats, providing additional protection for everyday use.
Interior and features
Inside, the Compass Sport 9AT features a dark cabin theme with grey fabric inserts on the dashboard and door panels. The fabric seats come with contrasting blue stitching.
The SUV is equipped with an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets a four-speaker audio system and a 3.5-inch digital instrument display.
Other convenience features include steering-mounted controls and electrically adjustable outside rearview mirrors.
The automatic variant adds cruise control and an Auto Hold function, making it better equipped for daily driving, particularly in heavy urban traffic.
Jeep is also offering an optional accessory pack priced at Rs 29,900. The package includes ambient lighting, a dashboard camera with predictive safety features, exterior decals, all-weather floor mats and mud flaps.
Safety equipment
The Compass Sport automatic receives six airbags, an improvement over the equipment offered on the manual Sport variant.
The SUV also features electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assistance, ISOFIX child-seat anchors and a tyre-pressure monitoring system.
Additional safety equipment includes an electronic parking brake, a reversing camera and rear parking sensors.
These features strengthen the equipment package of the entry-level automatic variant while retaining the mechanical configuration of the existing Compass.
Price and availability
Priced at Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Compass Sport 9AT is positioned as the most accessible automatic variant in Jeep's Indian portfolio.
The automatic transmission commands a premium of approximately Rs 4 lakh over the Sport manual variant, although the additional safety and convenience features contribute to the difference.
Commenting on the launch, Kumar Priyesh, Business Head and Director, Automotive Brands, Stellantis India, said the introduction was intended to make the Compass's driving experience accessible to more customers.
The company will begin customer deliveries in the second week of November.
With the introduction of the Sport 9AT, Jeep has expanded the Compass range without introducing a new engine or making major design changes. The update gives buyers another option in the diesel automatic SUV segment, particularly those seeking an automatic transmission at a lower price within the Compass line-up.
