Ducati unveils 2027 Panigale V4 with 218 hp engine, upgraded electronics and chassis

New superbike delivers 0.4-second faster lap times at Vallelunga, with revised gearing, improved aerodynamics and advanced braking systems

Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati on Friday unveiled the 2027 Panigale V4, introducing a series of mechanical, chassis and electronic upgrades aimed at improving track performance, handling and rider control. The latest iteration of the company's flagship superbike produces 218 horsepower, an increase of 2 hp over its predecessor, and incorporates revised gearing, a redesigned front frame and advanced braking technologies derived from Ducati's racing experience. The manufacturer said the updated motorcycle recorded an average improvement of 0.4 seconds per lap during testing at Italy's Vallelunga circuit compared with the outgoing model. The new Panigale V4 is expected to arrive in India in 2027, although the company has not announced pricing or a specific launch date.

The 2027 model builds upon the seventh-generation Panigale V4 introduced at World Ducati Week in 2024, with Ducati concentrating on incremental improvements across the engine, aerodynamics, chassis and electronic control systems. The company said the development programme drew upon its experience in international motorcycle racing, where the Panigale platform has secured several rider and manufacturer championships. According to Ducati, the latest changes are intended not only to improve outright performance but also to make the motorcycle more predictable and less physically demanding when ridden at high speeds. Several technologies incorporated into the new model were evaluated under racing conditions during the Lenovo Race of Champions, contributing to a 0.7-second improvement in the pole position record set by Nicolรฒ Bulega.

At the heart of the updated Panigale V4 is Ducati's 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale engine, which now develops 218 hp at 13,500 rpm and maximum torque of 120.6 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The increase in power has been achieved through modifications to the exhaust system, an enlarged air intake and a recalibrated lubrication circuit designed to reduce mechanical losses. The Euro5+ compliant engine delivers its most substantial performance improvements between 12,000 and 14,000 rpm, with Ducati reporting a gain of 3.5 hp at 13,000 rpm compared with the previous version.

The revised air intake improves airflow by 0.6 per cent at 300 kmph, providing an additional 1.3 CV of power at that speed. Ducati has also introduced longer final gearing, changing the sprocket configuration from 16/41 to 17/42, while increasing the rev limiter to 15,000 rpm in second through fifth gears. Previously, the higher rev limit was not available across all these gears. The changes allow riders to remain in the optimal gear for longer periods, particularly when accelerating out of corners and approaching high-speed sections of a racetrack.

According to Ducati, the revised gearing reduces the number of gear changes required at Vallelunga by two per lap, allowing riders to concentrate more on braking points, cornering lines and throttle application. The manufacturer has also introduced an optional Akrapoviฤ Full Racing Exhaust PRO, which increases output by 11 hp and torque by 7 Nm while reducing the motorcycle's weight by 6.6 kg. The exhaust system is intended for customers seeking additional performance in track-focused configurations.

One of the most significant changes to the 2027 Panigale V4 concerns its Front Frame chassis, which has been redesigned to improve tyre contact and stability at extreme lean angles. Ducati engineers have reduced the frame's lateral stiffness by 12 per cent, allowing the front tyre to maintain more consistent contact with the road surface during aggressive cornering. The company said this modification improves front-end grip, steering precision and the rider's ability to maintain a tighter line through corners.

The revised final drive arrangement also contributes to the motorcycle's handling characteristics by effectively reducing the wheelbase by 8 mm. Ducati said the change makes the Panigale V4 S more responsive during rapid direction changes, particularly on circuits featuring consecutive corners. The combined chassis and gearing modifications are intended to help riders carry greater speed through bends while accelerating earlier on corner exits.

The Panigale V4 S additionally receives adjustable clip-on handlebars designed for track use. These can be raised by 10 mm to provide a higher riding position, improving leverage during direction changes and reducing physical effort under heavy braking. Ducati said the configuration reflects developments seen in MotoGP, where rider ergonomics are increasingly tailored to improve control during demanding racing conditions.

The motorcycle retains its aluminium fuel tank with a capacity of 17 litres. The V4 S has a kerb weight of 187 kg without fuel, while the standard Panigale V4 weighs 191 kg under the same measurement conditions.

Ducati has introduced two major electronic technologies on the new Panigale V4 S: Dynamic Engine Brake and Race Brake Control. Both systems are intended to improve motorcycle stability and braking efficiency, particularly during high-speed corner entry.

Dynamic Engine Brake replaces the previous Engine Brake Control system and uses Ducati's Vehicle Observer algorithm to regulate engine braking according to the actual load acting on the rear tyre. The system continuously adjusts the level of engine braking to improve stability during deceleration, particularly when the motorcycle is leaned over. Ducati said the technology makes corner entry more predictable and allows riders to maintain greater control when approaching the limits of available grip.

Race Brake Control, meanwhile, increases the rear wheel's contribution during braking, helping riders use available tyre grip more effectively. Working together, the two systems are designed to permit later braking points and more precise corner entry, techniques commonly employed by professional racers. Ducati said the objective is to make these capabilities more accessible to riders without requiring the same level of experience as professional competitors.

The electronics package also includes Race eCBS with cornering functionality, Ducati Traction Control DVO, Ducati Slide Control, Ducati Wheelie Control DVO, Ducati Power Launch DVO and Ducati Quick Shift 2.0. These systems operate through a six-axis inertial measurement unit that monitors the motorcycle's dynamic behaviour.

The Panigale V4 S continues to feature Ducati Electronic Suspension 3.0, incorporating an ร–hlins NPX-30 front fork, ร–hlins TTX 36 rear shock absorber and electronically controlled steering damper. The motorcycle is equipped with Brembo Hypure monobloc brake calipers and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa V4 tyres, including a 200/60-section rear tyre.

The updated superbike receives redesigned aerodynamic winglets arranged in a biplane configuration, with enlarged side endplates integrated into the motorcycle's bodywork. The revised design forms part of Ducati's broader effort to improve aerodynamic efficiency and maintain stability during high-speed riding.

The Panigale V4 S also features a new 6.9-inch full-TFT instrument display with an 8:3 aspect ratio. The wide-format screen is designed to provide riders with information about the motorcycle's performance and electronic settings. Five riding modes are available: Race A, Race B, Sport, Road and Wet, allowing the motorcycle's response and electronic intervention levels to be adapted to different conditions.

Other standard equipment includes full-LED lighting with daytime running lights, forged aluminium wheels, a lithium battery and a single-seat configuration. A passenger kit is available as an accessory. The motorcycle is also prepared for Ducati's Data Logger and Multimedia System, which can be added according to customer requirements.

The standard Panigale V4 shares much of the equipment and technology of the V4 S but uses a different suspension and wheel configuration. It features a fully adjustable 43 mm Showa Big Piston front fork, Sachs rear monoshock, Sachs steering damper, fixed clip-on handlebars, five-spoke light-alloy wheels and a lead-acid battery.

Ducati has confirmed that the 2027 Panigale V4 is expected to arrive in India next year, although the company has not disclosed its pricing, booking schedule or the specific variants that will be offered in the country. Availability in other international markets will be announced separately.

The new model represents an evolution of Ducati's flagship superbike rather than a complete redesign, with the manufacturer concentrating on measurable improvements in acceleration, braking, cornering performance and electronic intervention. The relatively modest increase in peak engine output is accompanied by more extensive changes to the chassis and control systems, reflecting the company's emphasis on making high-performance riding more manageable.

For Indian superbike enthusiasts, the upcoming Panigale V4 will introduce Ducati's latest racing-derived technologies in a production motorcycle, including the new Dynamic Engine Brake and Race Brake Control systems. Its expected arrival in 2027 will also bring an updated version of the Panigale V4 S, combining electronically controlled ร–hlins suspension, revised ergonomics and an expanded range of personalisation options.

The manufacturer has yet to announce local specifications or prices, but the technical changes position the 2027 Panigale V4 as Ducati's latest attempt to improve the balance between outright circuit performance and rider control in its flagship superbike range.
