TVK welcomes SC's stay of Madras HC's ruling against jobs to kin of stampede victims

'Legal hurdles must not be created when the goal is to provide support and help to the affected families by way of jobs'

The ruling TVK on Friday welcomed the Supreme Court's stay of the Madras High Court's order quashing orders providing jobs to relatives of people who died in a stampede at Karur last year.

Welcoming the Supreme Court's ruling, TVK spokesperson Americai V Narayanan accused the previous DMK regime of acting in "gross negligence" in handling the situation when TVK founder chief Vijay visited Karur last year to address a rally.

"They know very well that he draws huge crowds," the TVK functionary said and alleged that fool-proof steps for proper crowd management and safety were not ensured.

"We pray that the Opposition understands that they should not prevent help to the poor and ordinary people from the government," he told PTI.

Legal hurdles must not be created when the goal is to provide support and help to the affected families by way of jobs, he said.

In a relief for the Tamil Nadu government, the Supreme Court on August 14 stayed an order of the Madras High Court which quashed Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's order providing government jobs to relatives of people who died in a stampede at Karur last year.
