Supreme Court gives Delhi-NCR two days to burst crackers, ban returns from November 9
The Supreme Court has granted a two-day window for the sale and bursting of certified green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR during Diwali, offering limited relaxation from the existing restrictions on firecrackers. The permission will apply on November 7 and 8, with residents allowed to burst crackers only during specified hours.
As per the schedule approved by the court, green firecrackers can be burst between 6am and 7am and from 8pm to 10pm on both days. The relaxation is restricted to these time slots, and any bursting outside the permitted hours will not be covered by the order.
The court has also clarified that the temporary permission will not extend beyond November 8. The complete ban on firecrackers will come back into effect from November 9, ending the two-day window granted for Diwali celebrations.
Only certified green firecrackers permitted
The Supreme Court's order allows only certified green firecrackers to be sold and burst across Delhi-NCR. Conventional firecrackers remain outside the scope of the relaxation.
Green firecrackers are designed to release fewer pollutants compared to traditional firecrackers. Their use is intended to reduce the pollution caused by firecracker emissions, particularly in areas that already face concerns over air quality.
Ban to return from November 9
The relaxation is strictly limited to the two dates specified by the court. Residents will be able to use certified green firecrackers during the morning and evening slots on November 7 and 8, but the restrictions will be fully restored from November 9.
The court's decision, therefore, provides a narrow window for Diwali celebrations while retaining the broader restrictions on firecrackers in Delhi-NCR.
