Delhi court grants protection to Haryanvi singer Sapna Choudhary in domestic violence case

A Delhi court has granted interim protection to Haryanvi singer and actor Sapna Choudhary in a domestic violence case, restraining her husband, Yashveer Sahu, from contacting her or visiting her residence and workplace until the next hearing.

The order was passed by Judicial Magistrate First Class Nidhi Singh of the Mahila Court at Dwarka after Choudhary approached the court under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005. In her plea, she alleged that she was compelled to leave the shared household because of her husband's conduct and is currently staying at her parental home in Delhi's Najafgarh area. She also submitted an affidavit detailing the alleged abuse, along with photographs of injuries and audio recordings that she said supported her claims.

During the hearing, Choudhary's counsel argued that she feared further acts of domestic violence and expressed concern that Sahu could disrupt the premiere of her upcoming film Momacu on June 10. The court was told that immediate protection was necessary to safeguard both her personal safety and professional commitments.

After reviewing the material placed before it, the court found sufficient grounds for interim relief. It directed that Sahu should not contact Choudhary in any manner, visit her residence or workplace, including the film premiere venue, or engage in any act of domestic violence until further orders. The court also instructed the Protection Officer and the local police to ensure compliance and provide assistance if required.

The order records that Choudhary's counsel informed the court that the couple are legally married and have two minor children who are currently in Sahu's custody. However, the court noted that documents establishing the marriage had not yet been filed. Following an assurance that supporting records would be produced, the court issued summons to Sahu and scheduled the next hearing for July 25. Choudhary was represented by advocate Preeti Singh.
