Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon team up for Hindi-dubbed version of ‘Obsession’

The actors lend their voices to the lead characters of the Hollywood horror thriller, marking Sanon's first experience dubbing for another performer

Bollywood actors Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon have joined hands for the Hindi-dubbed version of Hollywood horror film Obsession, lending their voices to the lead characters in the supernatural thriller.

The film, directed by Curry Barker, follows Bear, a music store employee who develops romantic feelings for his colleague Nikki. His life takes a frightening turn when he uses a mysterious object called the 'One Wish Willow' to make Nikki fall in love with him.

However, the wish produces unexpected consequences as Nikki's affection gradually develops into an unhealthy obsession, transforming what initially appears to be a romantic fantasy into a disturbing experience.

Dhawan has dubbed for Bear, originally portrayed by Michael Johnston, while Sanon has lent her voice to Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette.

Kriti makes dubbing debut

For Sanon, the project marks her first experience of providing a Hindi voice for another actor's on-screen performance.

Speaking about the opportunity, the actor said she enjoyed the film's unconventional storyline and found the character particularly challenging.

"I absolutely loved the film and the performances in Obsession. It's such a gripping, quirky & twisted story. I've never explored a character this edgy before, which made the experience even more exciting & challenging," she said.

Sanon added that the project offered her an opportunity to explore a different aspect of her craft.

"This is also the first time I've lent my voice to another actor's performance, and I couldn't have asked for a more exciting film to make that debut with! I had a lot of fun voicing for it and I can't wait for the audiences to experience the film in Hindi," she said.

Varun shares dubbing experience

Dhawan said working on the Hindi adaptation allowed him to examine the film from a different perspective and appreciate details that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

"Working on the Hindi version of Obsession gave me an opportunity to experience the story from a completely different perspective. In fact, I found myself enjoying the film even more because I could look at it so closely," he said.

The actor added that the dubbing process helped him observe smaller elements of the performances and storytelling.

"I noticed so many little details that I may have missed on a first watch, and that made the whole experience even more interesting. I'm excited for audiences to experience Obsession in Hindi and discover those details for themselves," Dhawan said.

The collaboration brings the two actors together again after their previous appearance in the Hindi horror-comedy Bhediya.

JioHotstar releases promotional video

On Tuesday, JioHotstar shared a promotional video on Instagram featuring Dhawan and Sanon recreating a memorable car sequence from the film.

The video offered audiences a glimpse of the actors' collaboration ahead of the Hindi version's streaming release.

The promotional campaign also featured filmmaker Amar Kaushik, who previously directed Dhawan and Sanon in Bhediya.

Film to stream from October 30

Obsession was released in Indian theatres on May 29, 2026. The film combines elements of supernatural horror and romance, exploring the consequences of attempting to control another person's emotions.

The story follows Bear as he discovers that getting exactly what he wished for comes at an unexpected cost, with Nikki's increasingly intense attachment creating dangerous situations.

The film will begin streaming in English and Hindi on the Peacock Hub on JioHotstar on October 30 at 7 pm. The streaming release will also make the original uncut version available to Indian audiences, with Dhawan and Sanon providing the Hindi voices for the central characters.
