‘The Flintstones’ live-action film in works at Warner Bros with Ryan Gosling producing

Warner Bros is developing a new live-action film based on the beloved animated franchise "The Flintstones" with Hollywood star Ryan Gosling attached as a producer.

Film in early development

The project is in early development and the studio is currently looking for a screenwriter. Gosling will produce the project along with Jessie Henderson through their Open Invite banner, reported Deadline.

While plot details are yet to be revealed, the story is expected to focus on Bamm-Bamm Rubble, the son of Fred Flintstone's best friend Barney Rubble.

From animated series to global franchise

"The Flintstones" began as a Hanna-Barbera animated series that premiered on ABC in 1960.

Set in the Stone Age town of Bedrock, the series followed Fred and Wilma Flintstone, their pet dinosaur Dino, and their neighbours Barney and Betty Rubble and their son Bamm-Bamm.

The original series ran for six seasons until 1966 and became one of television's most popular animated shows.

Previous live-action films

The franchise previously made the transition to live action with the 1994 film "The Flintstones", starring John Goodman as Fred Flintstone and Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble. Steven Spielberg served as executive producer on the film, which earned around USD 340 million worldwide.

A prequel, "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas", followed in 2000, with a new cast portraying younger versions of Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty.

More recently, Fox announced "Bedrock", an adult animated sequel series to "The Flintstones", with Elizabeth Banks attached to voice Pebbles. The project was later dropped by the network.
