Robert Pattinson's 'The Batman Part II' faces new delay as production halts

Matt Reeves has stepped away from the shoot of 'The Batman Part II', prompting Warner Bros and DC Studios to temporarily pause production

Robert Pattinson’s return as Batman has hit another delay, with production on ‘The Batman Part II’ temporarily paused after director Matt Reeves stepped away from the shoot due to a family matter.

Warner Bros and DC Studios confirmed the production break and said Reeves has their full support. The studios have not disclosed further details about the situation or said how long filming will remain on hold. Reeves has also not commented publicly on the development.

According to Deadline, the studio said, “Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

Robert Pattinson promises a different Batman story

The sequel has been in the works for several years following the release of ‘The Batman’ in 2022. While details about the new story remain limited, Pattinson has previously indicated that the sequel will take the franchise in a different direction.

Speaking to Collider, the actor described the upcoming film as an ambitious departure from its predecessor while suggesting that it would retain some of the tone established in the first movie.

“It’s so ambitious. I mean, I sort of said the other day that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another. It's a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious and I'm excited to see how it turns out.”

Who is returning for the sequel?

Pattinson will reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Andy Serkis is returning as Alfred Pennyworth. Colin Farrell will again play Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, with Jeffrey Wright returning as James Gordon.

The cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch.

For now, the latest production pause adds another interruption to the long-awaited sequel, though Warner Bros and DC Studios have indicated that work will resume.
