Netflix announces 3-part docuseries on 'Friends' star Matthew Perry, set to stream October 27
Netflix is set to release a three-part docuseries on late actor Matthew Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing in 'Friends'. Titled 'The One About Matthew Perry', the series will premiere on October 27 and will feature accounts from people close to the actor, along with previously unreleased material from his family archive.
Matthew Perry's sister to be key voice
According to Netflix, Perry's sister Mia Perry Bowick will be a central voice in the series. It will include unreleased photographs and videos from the Perry family archive.
The streaming platform describes the documentary as a look at Perry's journey from a rising comedy star to the actor remembered by audiences as their favourite Friend. It will also explore new details about his private struggles and the legacy of honesty and advocacy he left behind.
Perry Bowick said she took time before feeling ready to share memories of her brother.
“It’s taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life — to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction," Perry Bowick said in a statement as quoted by Netflix.
Docuseries looks beyond Chandler Bing
Perry Bowick also spoke about the influence her brother had on her life and the way she hopes the series will present him beyond his best-known role.
“As his sister, he shaped who I am today, the person I strive to be and the work to which I’ve devoted my life. Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved. I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind," added Perry Bowick as quoted by Netflix.
Mary Robertson directs Netflix series
Mary Robertson, known for directing 'Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV' and producing 'Framing Britney Spears', is directing the series. She is also serving as executive producer through her Maxine Productions banner at Sony Pictures Television.

Perry died on October 28, 2023, aged 54, from an accidental ketamine overdose, according to PEOPLE magazine.
