Nayyi Navelli sees Saturday growth, earns ₹7.25 crore in its first two days

Yami Gautam's latest film, Nayyi Navelli, collected ₹4 crore on its second day in theatres, taking its total domestic box office collection to ₹7.25 crore. The mythological fantasy thriller, which released on Friday, opened with ₹3.25 crore and registered an improvement in collections on Saturday despite competition from other releases.

According to the latest figures reported by Sacnilk, the film was screened across 5,945 shows on Saturday. Its opening weekend performance will become clearer on Sunday, with attention now turning to whether it can sustain the upward trend.

The film has received mixed reviews, although Gautam's performance in the lead role has drawn praise. Nayyi Navelli has also outperformed Rajkummar Rao's Prahaar, which earned ₹2.35 crore on its opening day. The Yami Gautam-starrer continued to lead the comparison on Saturday, emerging as a prominent choice for moviegoers over the holiday weekend.

What is Nayyi Navelli about?

Set in Meerut, Nayyi Navelli follows a seemingly perfect bride, played by Yami Gautam, who transforms a chaotic household into what appears to be paradise. However, her brother-in-law begins to suspect that his seemingly ideal sister-in-law may actually be a daayan, or witch.

Directed by Balaji Mohan, the film is written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma. Its supporting cast includes Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisht, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee and Pratiek Pachori.

The film is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma, with music composed by G V Prakash Kumar.

What did the review say?

The film's reception has been mixed, with its central premise offering scope for a combination of mythology and comedy. However, the Hindustan Times review criticised the execution, arguing that the screenplay relies on numerous subplots and eccentric characters without bringing the story together effectively.

The review also observed that Gautam tries to hold the film together but cannot compensate for the narrative's shortcomings. It concluded that despite the promise suggested by its title, the film offers little that feels fresh.
