'Maatrubhumi' release date in limbo? What is holding up Salman Khan's war drama

Salman Khan's Galwan Valley-inspired war drama ‘Maatrubhumi’ has no confirmed release date yet as the makers await a censor board screening amid November release buzz

Salman Khan's upcoming war drama, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, is yet to receive clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), leaving its release plans uncertain. While the makers are reportedly awaiting a screening date, the actor is keen to bring the film to theatres in November.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the makers applied for certification in October but have not yet received a date for the screening. The delay has left the film's release timeline unclear, even as Salman is reportedly pushing for a November release.

The report further stated that Salman travelled to Delhi several times to approach the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting regarding the screening.

However, there is no confirmed release date for the film yet, and its theatrical arrival will depend on the certification process.

What is Maatrubhumi about?

Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, directed by Apoorva Lakhia, draws inspiration from the Galwan Valley confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh.

The clash took place on June 15, 2020, along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), during a standoff between the two countries. The confrontation involved hand-to-hand combat and resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers. It became one of the most serious military clashes between India and China in decades.

The film brings this episode from recent Indian military history to the big screen, with Salman portraying Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment. Babu led Indian troops during the confrontation while enforcing a disengagement agreement at the border.

Salman Khan's film features Chitrangda Singh

Apart from Salman, the film also stars Chitrangda Singh, Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia in key roles.

With the makers awaiting the CBFC's screening, the next step in the certification process will be crucial in determining whether the war drama can meet its reported November release target. Until an official announcement is made, the film's release date remains unconfirmed.
