‘Legends deserve dignity’: Badshah, Shaan back Daler Mehndi amid row over stage humiliation
Singers Badshah, Shaan, Harshdeep Kaur and Palash Sen, along with comedian Kapil Sharma, have come out in support of Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi after he was publicly reprimanded by Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal during a performance at the Kunjapuri Fair in Tehri district.
The controversy erupted after Uniyal interrupted Mehndi's performance on October 18 and accused him of singing under the influence of alcohol at a religious event dedicated to Goddess Durga.
A video of the confrontation subsequently went viral, triggering criticism of the minister's conduct and prompting several entertainment industry personalities to defend the singer.

Rapper Badshah expressed disappointment over the treatment of Mehndi, describing him as a legendary artist who deserved respect regardless of the circumstances surrounding his performance.
"Daler Mehndi is a legend. Period. You can express disappointment, but publicly humiliating an artist who has given so much to our music industry is extremely disheartening. Legends deserve dignity, especially when they are vulnerable. Respect always," Badshah wrote on Instagram.
Singer Shaan also extended his support, describing Mehndi as the original rockstar who had demonstrated his ability to captivate audiences through energetic performances.
Harshdeep Kaur defended the singer, suggesting that his performance may have been affected by illness.
She said Mehndi was known for his powerful stage presence and that his condition during the event appeared unusual.

Singer Palash Sen shared an emotional Instagram post describing Mehndi as a pioneer of Punjabi music whose contribution extended beyond entertainment.
Sen said the criticism and online trolling directed at the singer overlooked his decades of work and his personal circumstances.
He argued that even established performers could experience illness or difficult days but might still honour professional commitments rather than disappoint audiences.
Sen also rejected allegations that Mehndi consumed alcohol, maintaining that the singer had never been known to drink.
He urged social media users to recognise the individual behind the celebrity and avoid judging artists solely on the basis of viral videos.

Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma disclosed that Mehndi had undergone a serious surgical procedure, a fact he said was not widely known.
In an Instagram Story, Sharma urged people to show greater compassion, pointing out that the personal difficulties faced by public figures are not always visible.
He also thanked singer Mika Singh, Mehndi's younger brother, for publicly defending him and challenging the allegations.
The disclosure added a health-related dimension to the controversy, although details of the surgery and the singer's current medical condition were not provided.

Mika Singh strongly denied suggestions that his brother had consumed alcohol before the performance.
In a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, Mika challenged those circulating the allegations to provide evidence.
"If you ever see Daler Mehndi drinking alcohol, I'll quit singing," he declared.
Mika questioned whether anyone had seen his brother drinking during his three-decade-long career and criticised media outlets for reporting unverified allegations.
He said Mehndi had been unwell for the past two years and was still recovering, but continued to perform with his band.
Mika also argued that artists sometimes fulfil commitments despite illness because they do not want to disappoint organisers and audiences.
He called for greater responsibility in reporting allegations against public figures, warning that unsubstantiated claims could damage reputations.

The controversy began during Mehndi's performance at the Kunjapuri Fair in Uttarakhand's Tehri district on Sunday.
Uniyal, who is also the MLA from Narendranagar, walked onto the stage and interrupted the singer in front of the audience.
The minister alleged that Mehndi had consumed alcohol before performing and said such conduct was inappropriate at an event associated with the worship of Goddess Durga.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance, telling the singer that organisers had invited him because of his reputation and expected him to entertain the gathering.
In the viral video, Mehndi can be heard requesting the minister, with folded hands, to leave the stage.
The allegations about alcohol consumption have been disputed by Mehndi's family and supporters, and no independently verified evidence establishing that he was intoxicated has emerged from the reports.
The incident has since prompted a wider discussion within the entertainment industry about the treatment of performers, particularly when questions arise over their health or ability to perform.
