Lady Gaga, Michael Polansky name baby girl Rose Bean with special musical connections

Couple’s first child was born via surrogate on June 9 in Los Angeles, with her first name reportedly inspired by Gaga’s connection to the classic La Vie En Rose

Lady Gaga and her fiancé Michael Polansky have reportedly named their first child Rose Bean Polansky, choosing a name with possible connections to two significant musical influences in the pop star’s life. A birth certificate obtained by TMZ revealed that the couple welcomed their daughter via surrogate on June 9 at 11.19 pm at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Gaga and Polansky have not publicly announced their daughter’s name or shared details surrounding her birth. The arrival of their first child became public earlier this month after Gaga was photographed carrying a newborn while out with Polansky in Northern California.

Why Rose matters

Rose, the baby’s first name, is reportedly connected to La Vie En Rose, the Édith Piaf classic that has long held significance for Gaga.

The singer memorably performed the song in the 2018 film A Star Is Born, in which she starred opposite Bradley Cooper. Gaga also has a large rose tattoo running along her spine that commemorates her association with the song.

The name therefore appears to carry a personal as well as musical connection for the 40-year-old singer, although Gaga and Polansky have not themselves publicly explained why they chose it.

Story behind Bean

The middle name Bean has prompted another musical connection.

It is believed to be a possible tribute to singer and LGBTQ+ activist Carl Bean, whose 1977 recording I Was Born This Way was an inspiration behind Gaga’s 2011 hit Born This Way and the album of the same name.

Bean, who later became a prominent activist and religious leader, recorded the disco track decades before Gaga turned Born This Way into one of the defining songs of her career.

While the connection has been widely suggested, neither Gaga nor Polansky has publicly confirmed the inspiration behind their daughter’s middle name.

First-time parents

Gaga and Polansky began dating in late 2019 and publicly confirmed their relationship in early 2020. Their engagement became public in 2024.

Polansky, a technology entrepreneur, has also become increasingly involved in Gaga’s creative work. He contributed as a co-writer and co-producer to songs on her 2025 album Mayhem.

The couple have largely kept their personal relationship away from the spotlight despite appearing together at major public events.

Gaga had previously spoken openly about wanting to become a mother and start a family.

Keeping family private

Details about the couple’s new chapter remained private for months after Rose’s reported June birth.

Their parenthood became known only in September when Gaga was photographed with the baby in Northern California. Subsequent reports revealed that the child was a girl before the birth certificate disclosed her full name and birth details.

The couple have yet to make a formal announcement about Rose or share photographs of their daughter publicly.

For Gaga, whose career and public identity have repeatedly drawn on music, art and personal symbolism, Rose Bean Polansky’s name appears to carry echoes of two songs with particularly strong connections to her life and career.
