'Jana Nayagan' OTT release date out: When and where to watch Vijay’s final film

Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited farewell film Jana Nayagan is set for its OTT release this week. After reaching cinemas on July 23 following delays over CBFC clearance, the H Vinoth-directed political action drama will begin streaming on ZEE5 from August 21.

The OTT release was officially announced on August 17, giving fans who missed the theatrical run a chance to watch Vijay’s final film from home.

Jana Nayagan will stream on ZEE5 from August 21. The platform confirmed the release through its Tamil social media account, sharing a promotional video along with the announcement.

“Thangamey! Thalapathy #Jananayagan is all set to meet you all on 21st August only on Zee 5.”

The film holds particular significance for Vijay’s fans as it marks his final appearance in a feature film before his focus on politics. The announcement of its digital premiere has therefore generated considerable interest among his followers.

What is Jana Nayagan about?

Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is a political action drama centred on a leader taking on a corrupt system. The film’s storyline has also drawn attention because of its parallels with Vijay’s move from the film industry into active politics.

Vijay leads an ensemble cast that includes Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju and Bobby Deol. Prakash Raj and Gautham Vasudev Menon also feature in important roles. The film’s music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Jana Nayagan box office performance

The film was reportedly made on a budget of around Rs 300 crore to Rs 350 crore. Its theatrical run was also affected by an early digital leak, but it continued to attract audiences.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan collected Rs 196.97 crore net in India, while its gross domestic collection stood at Rs 228.55 crore. The film earned another Rs 93.20 crore gross overseas, taking its reported worldwide gross to Rs 321.75 crore.

With the film now moving to ZEE5, Vijay’s final cinematic outing is set for its next phase of release.
